대한민국 이공계의 자존심 포항공과대학교! 맨날 공부만 하는 천재들의 모임으로 알고 계셨나요? 포스텍의 화려했던 리즈 시절부터 빵빵한 장학금 혜택, 전봇대 하나 없는 신기한 캠퍼스 비밀과 교내 합법 술집까지, 포 — 캠퍼스투어 12. 포항공과대학교(POSTECH)｜척척석사 대한민국 이공계의 자존심 포항공과대학교! 맨날 공부만 하는 천재들의 모임으로 알고 계셨나요? 포스텍의 화려했던 리즈 시절부터 빵빵한 장학금 혜택, 전봇대 하나 없는 신기한 캠퍼스 비밀과 교내 합법 술집까지, 포항에 숨겨진 진짜 매력을 싹 정리해 드립니다. 우리가 흔히 포항공대라 부르는 이곳의 대외적 공식 영문명은 포스텍(POSTECH)입니다. 공학과 이학을 모두 아우르기 위해 Pohang University of Science and Technology의 영문 약자를 열심히 밀고 있죠. 1986년 포스코(포항제철)의 전폭적인 자금 지원을 받아 설립된 포스텍은 역대급 기록을 하나 가지고 있습니다. 바로 1994년 수능 당시 서울대를 꺾고 입결 전국 1위를 차지했던 화려한 과거입니다. 말 그대로 전국구 천재들이 모이는 진정한 괴물 공대였죠. 게다가 지을 때부터 기본과 원칙을 지켜 얼마나 튼튼하게 지었는지, 2017년 포항 지진 당시 주변 피해가 컸음에도 포스텍 캠퍼스는 완벽한 내진 설계 덕분에 피해가 거의 없어서 큰 화제가 되기도 했습니다. 포스텍은 정시 없이 100% 수시 면접으로만 단 320명의 소수정예 신입생을 선발합니다. 18학번부터는 전원 무학과로 입학해 1학년 동안 자유롭게 전공을 탐색할 수 있는 제도를 운영 중입니다. 가장 놀라운 것은 교육 환경입니다. 학부생 1,300명에 교수가 무려 250명! 학생 4명당 교수 1명이라는 엄청난 비율로 과외 수준의 밀착 지도를 받습니다. 돈 걱정 없이 공부할 수 있는 환경도 최고입니다. 평점 3.0만 넘으면 등록금을 전액 감면받는 파격적인 장학 제도가 있으며, 대학원 진학률도 매우 높아 전문연구요원 제도를 통한 병역 해결도 원활하게 이루어집니다. 포스텍 캠퍼스에는 전봇대가 단 하나도 없습니다. 학교 건물들이 총 3km에 달하는 거대한 지하공동구로 연결되어 있어 모든 배선과 배관이 땅 밑으로 다니기 때문입니다. 덕분에 하늘이 탁 트인 깔끔한 풍경을 자랑합니다. 캠퍼스 라이프의 중심은 단연 학생회관입니다. 1층 스낵바와 매점 등 편의시설이 모여 있고, 옥상에는 거대한 시계탑이 자리 잡고 있어 만남의 장소 역할을 톡톡히 합니다. 그리고 포스텍만의 엄청난 자랑거리! 바로 교내에 캐나다산 원목으로 지어진 합법 술집 통나무집(일명 통집)이 있습니다. 학교 설립 당시 땀 흘린 학생들을 위해 박태준 명예회장이 지어준 곳으로, 저렴한 가격에 술과 안주를 즐길 수 있어 동아리 회식의 성지로 불립니다. 매년 9월이면 캠퍼스가 뜨겁게 달아오릅니다. 바로 카이스트와 자존심을 걸고 벌이는 정기 교류전 포카전(카포전) 때문이죠. 과학기술계 양대 산맥의 피 튀기는 대결은 일 년 중 가장 큰 행사입니다. 지방이라 고립되어 있을 것 같지만 대중교통도 나름 훌륭합니다. 포항터미널을 이용하면 동대구, 부산, 동서울 등으로 가는 버스 배차가 꽤 넉넉해서 타 지역 이동이 수월합니다. 또한, 학교에서 공부하다가 제대로 된 회나 신선한 해산물이 당길 때는 포항의 상징인 죽도시장으로 달려가면 됩니다. 학번이 높아질수록 죽도시장의 참맛을 깨닫게 된다고 하네요!
