I saw the injury before anything else — half of his tail fluke was missing, a straight clean cut, not a predator bite. Sharks leave tearing wounds, this is what steel does. Fishing line, ghost net or a boat propeller. Injuries like this are documented all over the world and most large whales carry scars from ships or entanglement because they surface to breathe in the same lanes we use. He will swim like this for the rest of his life, every movement costing more energy, every migration harder, yet in this moment a small turtle crossed his path and this animal, weighing many tons and already slowed by a human-caused injury, changed direction and carefully avoided her. The animal we hurt chose awareness and restraint. Marine wildlife doesn’t attack out of anger, it reacts, survives and continues. We call ourselves the most intelligent species on this planet, yet millions of marine animals are injured every year by fishing gear and boat strikes, while a wounded whale still makes space for a smaller life. Watching it felt uncomfortable because it looked less like wildlife behavior and more like a reminder: the ocean doesn’t show cruelty nearly as often as humans do. What do you see when you watch this?

Australia has had four tragic Shark attacks in the last few days mostly attributed to Bull sharks. It’s important to keep perspective and understand that considering the number of people in the Ocean every day your chances of being bitten by a shark are much lower than you having a car accident on the way to the beach or drowning while in the water. Bull sharks are an important part of our ocean ecosystem, they are not killers out to get us. After heavy floodwaters as we have just experienced bull sharks move out from the rivers along the coastline cleaning up and hunting for prey in the shallow turbid dirty water. If you go swimming during these conditions your chance of a negative shark interaction is much higher. The Shark can’t see you It’s just detecting something moving in the water nearby and it will come in and bite. Over the last 30 years. I have had countless interactions with bull sharks in the water and have NEVER had a problem. Many people are calling for a shark CULL. This is just an ignorant knee jerk reaction that will not have any effect on reducing negative Shark incidents - it’s up to us to take responsibility for our behaviour and actions and not enter the water during high risk periods- being Dawn and dusk during dirty low visibility conditions and when bait balls are close to shore attracting large predators. We can’t blame the Sharks for being Sharks. We need to take a more responsible approach to our enjoyment of the Ocean. #Sharks #bullsharks #sharkattacks #ocean #responsibility

WARNING ⚠️: Wild animal depredation In 2023, I had the opportunity to film a great white being depredated on by one of the orca pairs, Port and Starboard, in South Africa. Once in a lifetime opportunity, thanks to @godivesa. However, as a shark community, everyone knew what this meant - all the sharks will be gone from the area. For how long? We never knew. The shark itself washed up on a local beach the next day - everything intact except the liver missing. The killer whales have learned to strategically bring the sharks to the surface, put into tonic immobility, and precisely remove it’s liver, leaving everything else. When the liver is removed, a protein called squalene is released, sending a warning signal to all other sharks in the area to leave before their next. This shark went through a necropsy & science-based studies to determine it’s cause of d*ath & it’s bodily contents / measurements by @oceansresearch. Crazy to eye witness this behavior in the wild 🦈 #sharkbehavior #orcavsgreatwhite #greatwhiteshark #marinebiology #portandstarboard

Great White Sharks attack from below at speeds up to 25 mph. The seal has no warning. One second it's swimming. The next, it's airborne—trapped in the jaws of a 2,000-pound predator. This is called a breach attack. The shark uses the element of surprise and the force of the impact to stun or kill the prey instantly. Sometimes the shark launches so hard that its entire body leaves the water. But here's what most people don't know: sharks don't want to eat humans. When sharks bite people, it's usually a case of mistaken identity. From below, a surfer on a board looks like a seal. The shark investigates with its mouth (they don't have hands), realizes it's not food, and leaves. Most shark attack victims survive because the shark lets go. We kill 100 million sharks every year. They kill about 5 of us. We're the danger, not them. #DigitalWildlifeStudio #GreatWhiteShark #SharkAttack #OceanLife #Predator #WildlifeEducation #Breach #MarineLife #Action #Nature

🎥💔 A baby humpback whale caught in shark nets off Noosa Main Beach. This footage is from a few years ago — but this is still happening. Right now. Along our coastlines. These so-called “shark protection” nets and drumlines don’t make our beaches safer — they make them deadly. For whales, dolphins, turtles, rays, and countless other marine animals. 🔗 Shark nets are not barriers — they’re fishing devices designed to catch and kill sharks. But they kill indiscriminately. 📍 In Queensland alone, over 50,000 marine animals have died in these nets and drumlines since the program began. 🐋 During whale migration season, entanglements spike — because nets sit directly in their migratory paths. Despite being absolutely heartbreaking to see, this baby humpback was one of the lucky ones. It was found, fought for, and freed. But many others are not. 💔 We do not have to choose between human safety and marine life. There are non-lethal, modern alternatives — drone surveillance, shark spotters, deterrents, and public education — that protect both people and ocean wildlife. 🌊 The ocean is not ours to destroy. It’s time to remove shark nets and drumlines and protect our beaches the right way. ⚠️ Watch. Share. Demand change. This is how we turn awareness into action. This is how we give the ocean — and its creatures — a fighting chance. 🎥: @tomyloub #TaylorXOcean 🐋🌏 #BanSharkNets #SaveOurOceans #HumpbackWhale #MarineLifeCrisis #NoosaBeach #DrumlinesKill #OceanNotNets #WhaleEntanglement #ProtectWhatYouLove #ViralReel #OceanActivism #StopTheSlaughter #EndDrumlines #SharkNetMyth #EcoAwareness #SustainableOceans #MarineConservation #TaylorXOcean #WhaleRescue #SayNoToSharkNets
