Yesterday we declared the candidates for the Legislative Council and the order that they will appear on your ballot papers. This process started with the 14 registered political parties. Each party’s candidate card was sealed in an envelope and placed into a box, where they were randomly drawn to determine the order from left to right on the ballot paper. Next, a second random draw was held for the two groups of independent candidates. These groups were placed after the party groups. There was also one ungrouped independent candidate. As they were the only candidate in that category, no draw was required and their name was placed below the line in the final column.
