. Meaning of Tense
Tense refers to the form of a verb that shows the time of an action or event. It tells us when something happens—in the past, present, or future.
👉 Example:
She writes a letter. (Present)
She wrote a letter. (Past)
She will write a letter. (Future)
2. Types of Tenses
There are three main types of tenses:
(A) Present Tense
It describes actions happening now or regularly.
Types of Present Tense
Simple Present Tense
Structure: Subject + V1 / V1+s/es
Example: She plays football.
Present Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + is/am/are + V1+ing
Example: She is playing football.
Present Perfect Tense
Structure: Subject + has/have + V3
Example: She has played football.
Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + has/have been + V1+ing
Example: She has been playing for two hours.
(B) Past Tense (भूतकाल)
It describes actions that already happened.
Types of Past Tense
Simple Past Tense
Structure: Subject + V2
Example: She played football.
Past Continuous Tense
Structure: Subject + was/were + V1+ing
Example: She was playing football.
Past Perfect Tense
Structure: Subject + had + V3
Example: She had played football.
Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Example: She had been playing for two hours.
(C) Future Tense
It describes actions that will happen in the future.
Types of Future Tense
Simple Future Tense
Structure: Subject + will/shall + V1
Example: She will play football.
Future Continuous Tense

Example: She will be playing football.
Future Perfect Tense
Structure: Subject + will have + V3
