JAThe Pawsitive Impact program at the Indiana Men’s Prison allows inmates to care for shelter cats, teaching them important skills like responsibility, empathy, and patience. Inmates are responsible for feeding, grooming, and socializing the cats, helping to prepare them for adoption.
The program benefits both inmates and animals. Inmates gain therapeutic and rehabilitative support, which can aid in their reintegration into society, while the cats receive care and socialization, improving their chances of finding a home. Similar programs in correctional facilities have shown positive outcomes, including reduced recidivism and improved mental well-being, making Pawsitive Impact a meaningful initiative for both inmates and the community.

Just like in the Free World, some people behind bars talk just to hear themselves speak, but others are really about that action! We’re here to shine a light on the doers. By collectively celebrating their accomplishments and lending our support, we can further inspire change and positive action. Let us be just as loud with our praise as we are with our criticism!
When we first met and spoke with Palmer in 2022, he proclaimed his first order of business upon release was to get ahold of his son and ensure he didn’t lose him to the streets like his parents lost him. He also shared his interest in starting a sports and mentorship program focused on the youth in an attempt to save them from going down the path he chose. After being released in October of 2023, he’s done everything he said he would and more! We recently had the privilege of speaking with him as a free man, meeting his incredible son that now lives with him, and learning all about his amazing nonprofit, Press Play Fitness and Mentoring! This ain’t just “prison talk”. This is action! To say we’re proud would be an understatement. Palmer is living proof that change is possible!
