THEven the greatest theme parks have their struggles with rides. Sometimes, issues will be encountered attempting to turn ambitious visions into reality. On other occasions, typically trustworthy hardware simply springs up unwelcome surprises that take a while to fix.
Efteling is no exception.
The breathtaking Vliegende Hollander opened one whole year later than planned, largely due to design flaws that the manufacturer KumbaK couldn’t ultimately iron out. As a result Intamin eventually got the call and came to the rescue.
Python has been a reliable workhorse for the park over the years but mishandling of a lift hill evacuation almost led to disaster when the train suddenly moved off unexpectedly during the unloading of passengers. Luckily only a solitary person - from Efteling’s staff team - ended up sustaining injury. As a result, safety procedures were reviewed and changed.
Recently the highly themed Baron 1898 dive coaster from B&M failed to reopen following routine maintenance. Rumour has it that there might be a cracked support. This is nothing to worry about and the whole point of doing scheduled checks. Just a bit annoying for anyone visiting soon!
Efteling is a very safe park that looks after guests. However, the park cannot completely prevent problems from occurring with the coaster lineup - the same thing you’ll find at any other similar destination. The main thing is that it identifies, addresses and learns from issues when they arise, preventing them from again doing so in the future.
