India’s First Tiger Sanctuary 🐅🇮🇳 The real answer lies in the far south 👇 📍 Mundanthurai Tiger Sanctuary — declared in 1962, a bold move by Tamil Nadu long before tiger conservation became a national priority. 🐯 The idea of “Tiger Reserves” came later in 1973 with Project Tiger. 🌿 In 1988, Mundanthurai joined hands with Kalakad Wildlife Sanctuary to form 👉 Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) — Tamil Nadu’s first tiger reserve. 💧 Known as a river sanctuary, KMTR is the origin of 14 rivers, including the mighty Thamirabarani River — the southernmost perennial river in India. 🌳 Home to ~400 sq. km of untouched wet evergreen forests — among the finest in the Western Ghats. 👇 Have you heard about KMTR before? On this day in 1973, Project Tiger was launched in India. It was to protect the Bengal tiger from extinction and preserve areas of biological importance. The project started with 9 national reserves and 268 tigers. India now has 58 tiger reserves and an estimated 3,682 wild tigers. | #VantageOnFirstpost with @hemsaroya

In the forests of India, there was a wise and brave queen who ruled near the great jungle of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. The forest was protected under a famous wildlife conservation program called Project Tiger, created to protect the majestic tigers that lived there. People called her simply the Queen of Taboda. One misty morning, the queen walked quietly along a narrow forest path. The jungle was waking up—birds were singing, leaves moved gently in the wind, and the river nearby flowed softly. Suddenly, she felt that she was not alone. From behind the tall grass, a tiger stepped out slowly. Its orange coat shone between the trees, and its eyes were calm but powerful. The queen did not run. She stood still and looked at the animal with respect. For a few silent moments, they watched each other. The queen felt the strength of the wild forest in that gaze. It was a reminder that the jungle belonged not only to people, but also to the creatures who had lived there long before. Then the tiger turned quietly and disappeared into the deep green forest. The queen returned to her palace with a new promise in her heart: to protect the forests of Taboda and the animals who called it home. And the tiger was never given a name, because some wild spirits are meant to remain free—even in stories. 🐅🌿📖 🌏 PLANET TIGER @planettiger @ahtclicks_wildlife #safariwithplanettiger #tiger #indianwildlife #bigcat #wildlife nature wild safari peace wildlifephotography tigres tigers association WildTiger TigersInTheWild NatureBrilliance IntoTheWild BigCatLove SaveTheTigers EndangeredSpecies ProtectWildlife TigerEyes WildlifePerfection NatureGram ExploreTheWild AnimalPlanet planetearth naturelovers

On the occasion of International Tiger Day, that is celebrated globally on 29th July every year, here’s my heartfelt tribute to this magnificent & the most iconic species to have ever graced our Mother Earth. But sadly they are also one of the most endangered species. While 50 Years of Project Tiger is a milestone achieved in conservation of Tigers & increase in Tiger numbers is a good news that needs to be celebrated, the dwindling tiger habitat across the country is still a worrisome issue for the existence of our beloved National Animal. Let’s be aware, there can be no Tigers without a forest & no forest without Tigers.. Tigers play a pivotal role in the health and diversity of an ecosystem. Being an apex predator, the presence of tigers in the forest is an indicator of the well-being of our ecosystem. Thus, our existence & well being also directly depends on the existence of this powerful, yet vulnerable species. Ironically, the biggest threat to tigers is also us- humans. Each one of us (in a very small way), can contribute in the conservation of Tigers, simply by visiting the various Tiger Reserves & National Parks of our country. Tourism to these places provides source of income for local communities which thereby controls their involvement in any illegal activities that can be threatening to wildlife. The revenue generated from tourism also helps governments to fund conservation efforts such as anti-poaching patrols, habitat restoration, village relocations etc. This is the least we can do to protect the Pride of our Nation, our very precious ‘Tigers’! May their tribe increase! 🙏💚 #internationaltigersday #globaltigerday #worldtigerday #savetigers #tigersofindia #royalbengaltiger #tigerconservation #tadoba #pench #kanha #bandhavgarh #panna #corbett #dudhwa #satpura #pilibhit #tiger #tigers #projecttiger #savingourstripes #wildlifeconservation #habitat #bigcats #wildlifephotography #wildandfree

Video by Nat Hab Expedition Leader Faiza Mookerjee @faizamooks on our India Tiger Safari! Did you know that in 2010, there were just 3,200 tigers left in the wild? Today, experts estimate that number has grown to around 4,500, with the latest data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature showing a remarkable 40% increase since 2015. India is home to the world’s largest tiger population, and thanks to Project Tiger (launched in 1973), more than 25 protected reserves now safeguard critical tiger habitat- helping to triple the number of Bengal tigers since the early 1970s. Join us in India to witness this incredible conservation success firsthand!

Once, the tiger was slipping quietly out of India’s forests. In 1973, Project Tiger began changing that story. Five decades later, India shelters most of the world’s remaining wild tigers. Proof that protection, patience, and persistence can bring a species back from the edge. 53 years on, the forest still writes the rest. #indianwildlife #incredibleindia #tiger #conservation #fyp

*** Every year, #InternationalTigerDay is celebrated on 29th July to highlight the importance of tiger conservation worldwide. The declaration to celebrate this day was adopted on 29th July 2010 in St. Petersburg with the aim of uniting all tiger range countries and making concerted efforts to conserve the tiger population worldwide. India’s journey in this initiative is a global beacon of hope for wildlife conservation. As of 2023, India has a population of 3,682 tigers (compared to 1,411 in 2006). This remarkable feat of preserving the tiger population has been achieved through various conservation efforts such as the Tiger Task Force and Project Tiger. World Tiger Day is observed and celebrated around the world on July 29th to celebrate the magnificent animals and learn about the threat to their existence. India has made significant progress in tiger conservation efforts with campaigns such as Project Tiger but there is more to be done. With expanding human settlements, tigers’ natural habitats are being destroyed and this increases fatal tiger-human conflicts. This World Tiger Day, let’s examine how our habits and lifestyle impact wildlife and do our best to reduce our negative impact on tiger populations. #WorldTigerDay #InternationalTigerDay
