This classic move in posing can be used in so many different ways, it is one of my default moves when I am in photos. The next time you are leaning on something like a desk, ledge or couch arm rest and the camera gets whipped out, avoid sitting front-on to the camera and compressing your body downwards. Do this instead - sit on your hip, pushing your legs out to the side. Your weight will fall onto your hip and hand on that side for balance. This sneaky little move elongates your body, slims your mid section and creates nice shape through your shoulders. The thing to remember is that the camera can’t see what’s going on behind parts of your body that are closest to the camera. So whacking your legs in front of your belly, leaning forward to place your belly out of view or using your arm across your front are all going to work in your slimming favour here. If you want to lean forward at the table in your photos AND look wider - keep your arms in close and your shoulders hunched. To look slimmer while you are leaning forward - pull your shoulders down and keep your arms away from your body If you are sitting side on at a table and being photographed and want to look wider - sit completely side on and pull your arms towards your body. To look slimmer side on - twist your shoulders towards the camera and keep your arm off the side of your body. The handy thing about being in photos across a table is that you only have the top half of your body to consider in photos. And that is super simple to master too with small little angle tweaks. The next time you are sat across from the camera at a table Don’t: -Sit completely side on - Push all of your weight onto your arm - Hunch your shoulders up All of this instantly widens your torso and arms and makes you look bigger than you actually are IRL! Do this instead: - Angle your torso 45 degrees to the camera - Pull your shoulders down - Keep your arms away from your body slightly All of that will give you slimming of the arms, elongation of your neck and shape through your top half with the separation of your arms from your body. Lengthen - angle them away from the camera and stretch them out Shorten - Pull your legs away from the camera and angled under you Slim - Stagger them next to each other pointing to the camera Poses are not one size fits all. The worst place to be sitting at a table when you are in a group photo is front and centre. Being completely side on and the thing that is closest to the camera compared to the rest of your group is the quickest way to make you look wider in photos than you actually are IRL. Here’s your quick fix when you are up close and personal with the camera during your next gathering. Angle your legs to point towards the camera - if you have space stretch them out slightly or loosely cross them (this will elongate them) Lean your top half back away from the camera If you want some extra belly coverage, hold an arm across your lap, joining with the other lightly resting on the side of the table. This works because you are no longer side on but angled to the camera and you are stretching your body out with your lean back. It was never your body that was wrong when you were perched up at the top of the table there - it was the camera distorting it’s view of you. Well, not anymore hey!
