All about your pulse and what you need to know about it. 🫀 Today, we’ll explain how to check a radial (wrist) pulse, how to measure a heart rate, and when to check your pulse. ✅ Use 2 fingers to find your radial pulse just above the crease of your wrist above your thumb ✅ To find out your heart rate: Count the number of beats for 15 seconds and then multiply by 4 to get your heart rate. ✅ Normally, at rest, it should be between 60 and 100 beats per minute. Find out if your pulse is regular or not. o The pulse can be regular, that’s okay. It beats like a clock without skipping or jumping. o It can have occasional extra heart beats that jump in between the regular beats, from time to time. Most of the beats are normal, but some beats are extra and are followed by a pause or gap. o It can be jumping all the time without any regular beats. This might be atrial fibrillation (AF). We’ll be talking more about AF in one of our later reels. You should sit down and check your pulse when you feel certain symptoms: when you are feeling faint, dizzy, have a pounding in your chest, are short of breath, or have chest pain. Once a week, even with no symptoms, if you are over age 60, you should check your pulse for AF. AF increases with age. At age 50 it happens in less than 1 in 250 people, but by age 60 it’s 1 in 50, age 70 it’s 1 in 20, age 80 it’s 1 in 8, and age 90 it’s 1 in 6. In your lifetime, the chance of developing AF is 1 in 4. Atrial fibrillation can lead to stroke, and often people are not aware of its presence. If you think your pulse is not normal, check with your doctor so you can have an ECG or any other tests that are needed. If you are feeling unwell or sick, as described above, CALL 911. Capturing the rhythm of the digital world! ✨ Ever wonder how your voice, music, or a simple phone call travels through the air as data? It all starts here with the absolute bedrock of digital communications: Pulse Code Modulation (PCM). Let’s break down what is actually happening in the file PulseCodeModulation.mp4: 1. Step 1: Sampling: That continuous blue wave is our analog signal. The vertical purple lines represent the Sampling process—taking snapshots of the wave at precise intervals (Ts). It’s like turning a smooth movie into a series of still frames! 2. Step 2: Quantization: Watch the purple lines turn green. This is Quantization. The system maps each sample to the nearest level on our grid. It’s the process of rounding off the physical world into discrete values that a computer can actually understand. 3. Step 3: Encoding: This is where the magic happens! Every quantized level is assigned a specific binary code. In the digital output stream at the bottom, you see the red numbers—101, 110, 011—which represent the signal as a string of 1s and 0s. The analog wave has officially become digital data! This elegant transformation is exactly how we bridge the gap between the physical environment and our digital devices. Seeing it in motion proves that visual learning is better than just memorizing signal processing formulas! Have you ever had to build an Analog-to-Digital converter in your lab? Let’s talk about your favorite hardware for signal processing in the comments! 👇 #PulseCodeModulation #DigitalCommunications #SignalProcessing #EngineeringStudent #Mechatronics

📌PULSE AMPLITUDE MODULATION Pulse amplitude modulation is the simplest form of modulation. It is an Analog to digital conversion method where the message information is encoded in the amplitude of the series of signal pulses. Pulse amplitude modulation is a technique in which the amplitude of each pulse is controlled by the instantaneous amplitude of the modulation signal. It is a modulation system in which the signal is sampled at regular intervals and each sample is made proportional to the amplitude of the signal at the instant of sampling. This technique transmits the data by encoding in the amplitude of a series of signal pulses 🔶️The pulse amplitude modulation can be generated through 555IC by connecting one NPN transistor at the output. The connection of this IC can be done in the astable mode for producing a pulse train so that samples of the audio signal can be obtained.

PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) is one of the most powerful techniques in electronics. Instead of reducing voltage like a variable resistor (which wastes power as heat), PWM switches the supply ON and OFF at very high speed. The secret lies in the duty cycle — the ratio of ON time to total time of one cycle. At 50% duty cycle: The signal is 5V for half the time And 0V for the other half So the average voltage becomes: (5 × 0.5) + (0 × 0.5) = 2.5V Important: The voltage is NOT actually reduced to 2.5V. It is still switching between 0V and 5V. But loads like LEDs, DC motors, and filters respond to the average value — which makes PWM extremely efficient. That’s why PWM is used in: • Motor speed control • LED dimming • SMPS • Inverters • Solar charge controllers • Microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, etc.) High efficiency. Low heat loss. Smart power control. the original vibe coding? ☔️ spent a good chunk of last night rediscovering music and coding little sounds that would fit right into an indie game soundtrack. i’m no professional, but the fact that code doubles as a creative medium is genuinely one of my favorite things about it. my first attempts were pretty rough (dissonant and forgettable) but this one actually sounds like it could work as loading screen music, so here it is. reminder: try new things for the joy of it, not just to reach some endpoint. fit from @aelfricedenofficial #coding

Reading about pulse is easy but picking up the abnormalities is what we have to focus on... Radial (most common), brachial, carotid, femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial, dorsalis pedis. Method of Examination Examine using the pads of fingers, compare both sides, patient relaxed. Parameters to Assess Rate – Normal adult: 60–100/min Rhythm – Regular / irregular (e.g., AF → irregularly irregular) Volume – Depends on stroke volume and pulse pressure Character – Shape of pulse wave (e.g., slow rising, collapsing) Tension – Reflects diastolic BP Equality – Compare both sides (e.g., coarctation) Condition of vessel wall – Thickened, tortuous in atherosclerosis Important Abnormal Pulses Low volume – Shock, heart failure High volume / Collapsing pulse – Aortic regurgitation Slow rising pulse – Aortic stenosis Bisferiens pulse – AR + AS / HOCM Pulsus paradoxus – Cardiac tamponade, severe asthma Pulsus alternans – LV failure Clinical Importance Pulse gives clues to cardiac output, rhythm disorders, valvular lesions, and peripheral vascular disease.
