The Set and the Twoies were designed by Rachel Forbes. Andrew Cull is the puppet maker in charge, leading a team of up to 10 fabricators and engineers! All made here at home in Halifax. The Gardners tell us that the girls are really starting to show their personalities as they get older. They've been diligently watering and feeding them for months now...though...they're starting to look a little anemic...must be the time of year. It was an absolute joy to make this film for the amazing folks at Loewe. They wanted to do something with automata that celebrated the work of Suna Fujita, the Japanese husband and wife duo who have collaborated on new Loewe collections. I’ve had a long-held love of automata so I conceived a film that mixed wooden mechanical toys with hand-carved marionettes and was able to work with some incredible artists to bring the puppets and automata to life, and then set it all within this theatrical sculptor’s studio. All of the build happened remotely and then we constructed a marionette theatre in Clapham Road Studios to shoot it!
