ALRappelling off the small exposed summit of the Petit Grepon.
Doing your homework to know the descent is just as important as the way up. Often climbers discount it as just the way down but it is equally important.
Is it a non-technical walk off or is it a technicals descent? Where does the the trail go or how long are the rappels, are imperative information beforehand.
Some good practices are:
✅ extend your rappel device and use a friction hitch backup.
✅ don’t simul-rappel. It’s not as fast as you think it is. Especially weighed against the added risk.
✅ in high winds or crowded areas, saddle bag your ropes.
✅ never rappel past our ropes if they are sitting on a ledge. This is a great way for them to get stuck.
✅ send the first person down with some trad gear. Just in case.
✅close the system with knots.
