Ever faced the issue where a user clicks your Submit button multiple times and the API gets spammed with repeated calls?
This might look small, but it can crash your backend, submit duplicate data, or cause serious bugs in production.
Here’s how you fix it like a pro:
Step 1: Use a loading state (isSubmitting) to check if the API is already running. While it's true, disable the button — no more rapid fire clicks!
Step 2: Use useRef as a lightweight flag to prevent resubmission — even without causing re-renders. Perfect for advanced form control.
Step 3: For lightning-fast clickers, use a debounce method. It adds a short delay and ensures the API is only triggered once if clicks happen rapidly.
BONUS Handling:
What if your API fails? Simple — maintain two states:
One for loading
One for error
If the API throws an error, reset the loading state and show the user a friendly error message — making your app feel smooth and reliable.
