Rejection sensitivity refers to a pattern of intense emotional and physiological reactions to real or perceived rejection, criticism, or disapproval. It’s not simply being sensitive to feedback; it’s a nervous-system response where the threat of social disconnection feels urgent and overwhelming. This can show up even in ambiguous or neutral situations—an unanswered message, a shift in tone, a canceled plan—where the mind quickly interprets uncertainty as evidence of being unwanted or devalued. For many people, rejection sensitivity develops as an adaptive response to earlier experiences such as inconsistent caregiving, bullying, chronic criticism, trauma, or environments where love and safety felt conditional. Over time, the brain learns to scan for signs of rejection in order to prevent future pain. While protective in origin, this hyperawareness often backfires in adulthood, amplifying distress and shaping relationships in limiting ways. Emotionally, rejection sensitivity can trigger intense shame, anxiety, sadness, or anger. Physically, it may involve a racing heart, tight chest, nausea, or a sense of collapse or panic. Behaviorally, people may cope by withdrawing, people-pleasing, overexplaining, avoiding vulnerability, or becoming defensive before rejection has actually occurred. These strategies aim to reduce pain but can unintentionally reinforce isolation or misunderstanding. #reels #explorepage #brain #viral #fyp

The worst part of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria isn’t the intensity—it’s knowing you’re overreacting and being completely unable to stop it. Most people think RSD means we don’t realise our response is disproportionate. The truth is crueller: we do. In real time. We can see the gap between what was said and what we’re feeling. We just can’t close it. So we get very good at hiding it instead. Nodding, smiling, saying ‘that’s really helpful, thank you’—and then replaying the comment on loop for days. Because our brains register casual feedback the same way they register actual danger. Not metaphorically. Physically. This is why how feedback is delivered to ADHD and autistic people matters so much. It’s not about being oversensitive. It’s about understanding that the same words land completely differently in a brain wired like ours—and adjusting accordingly isn’t coddling, it’s access. #RejectionSensitiveDysphoria #Autistic #ADHD #Neurodivergente #Autism

Rejection Sensitivity (RSD) is one of the hardest parts of ADHD. 🥺 It can look like anxiety or low self-esteem, but it’s actually a form of nervous system dysregulation tied to how ADHD brains process social feedback. It’s the constant fear that you said or did something wrong. The worry that people are annoyed with you. The belief that you’ve made things awkward, even when nothing actually happened. And your brain replays and overanalyzes every interaction, searching for proof those fears are true. These are just a few examples of how RSD can show up day to day. Let me know if you relate to any of them. And if you’re looking for ADHD-friendly tips and strategies, you’ll love my weekly ADHD newsletter. This was a harsh lesson to learn. I used to always attribute my gut feelings to RSD, but I’ve learned that my pattern recognition and intuition was actually serving me. Hidden animosity is such a weird thing to me, I don’t understand why someone would pretend to be kind or want a friendship if they genuinely don’t like you. Make it make sense. I’ve learned to really trust myself. Trust those red flag feelings. It might save some heartache. #autism #autistic #asd #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #inclusion #hiddenanimosity #friendships
