This well-loved purse belonging to my daughter finally gave out so we dropped it off at the shoe repair. A week later—good as new!
Cobblers can repair all kinds of things, in addition to shoes. If you don’t have a cobbler in your city, you may find a repair café for your damaged purses, bags, belts, shoes... Or if you’d like to repair something yourself, you’ll likely find a repair tutorial on YouTube, @ifixit, @instructables and so on. Save money, keep stuff out of landfill, conserve resources and reduce emissions!
I’ve had my Birks repaired four times (so far) at this same cobbler. How many lives do you think we can get out of this purse?

What is the age old Indian tradition that seems to be on the verge of extinction?
Yes, it is indeed Repairing!
Yes, our parents or our grandparents grew up in times where repairing anything that didn’t work properly was the norm.
They repaired it until there was no kind of saving possible.
But what do we do?
When was the last time most of you went to a tailor to fix a zip or to a cobbler to fix a shoe?
A decade ago?
Yes, sadly the practice of repair is being done lesser and lesser over the years.
The use and throw culture has become so prevalent that products are now available at such cheap rates that it makes us think that buying a new one is probably cheaper than getting it repaired.
But let me correct you.
That is SO NOT TRUE.
Repairing this shoe sole costed me ₹80. And buying a decent quality shoe would have cost me atleast ₹500.
I’m not saying you can’t get a shoe for ₹100 but I did not want to compromise on quality.
So repairing your clothes, your electronics, shoes or literally anything is mostly cheaper than buying a new one, except for Apple products (of course! 😛).
So please do find a local tailor, a cobbler, a repairman, a plumber or an electrician, and try getting your faulty things repaired, first, before deciding on a new one!

ANMy client’s beautiful 24K gold chain necklace with a 5 gram Swiss bar was in need of a new hook bail. He’s worn it around his neck since his mother gifted it to him in his teens, now going into his 70’s it needed a little revamp. Wanting to keep it true to its original form, melting down the original hook bail and pulling it through the rolling mill to form it into its original shape was super fun! Turning out beautifully ⭐️
