THCONTROVERSY ERUPTS at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College, Jammu & Kashmir!
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) — set up by the Shrine Board in Reasi — recently got approval for 50 MBBS seats (2025-26). But now, a major reservation storm has hit the college 👇
🔸 Locals allege that over 70% of seats were allotted to students from Kashmir, while very few went to Hindu or local students of Reasi–Udhampur region.
🔸 Protesters demand that the college be granted “Hindu Minority Institution” status and that a local quota be introduced — similar to the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University model.
🔸 Activists argue that a college funded by the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board should prioritize locals and shrine employees’ families.
🔸 However, officials clarify that admissions were purely merit-based as the college has not yet been granted minority status by the government.
⚖️ The debate now raises deeper questions:

BAImagine this..... You’re standing with your friends. A casual debate breaks out about exam cutoffs. Suddenly, your heartbeat rises. You already know where this is going.
One Savarna friend will say , “I didn’t get in because of reservation.”Another will blame the entire underdevelopment of India on reservation. Someone else will bring up that one “Rich Dalit” they know, and soon the whole group will nod in agreement: “Why should they get reservation? This is why all the good brains are leaving India.”
Sounds familiar? Let’s be honest, this isn’t imagination. This has happened to all of us who made a place in this system full of Savarnas. Most of the time, we were the only one from a marginalized community in the entire group.
And what did we do?We stayed silent.We hid our identity.Because deep down, we all want to be accepted. We all want to be loved for who we are, but when it doesn’t happen staying silent so that we can maintain those friendships, becomes the only way to survive in the system filled with savanras.
But the reality is cruel. Savarna echo chambers have painted reservation as the villain of society , the reason India isn’t developed, the killer of meritocracy, the obstacle to science and progress. And anyone who uses reservation is branded the culprit.
The moment they know our community, our merit and hard work is instantly discredited. We push ourselves twice as hard just to prove we belong. But what do we get in return? Judgmental eyes. Whispering voices. As if our communities alone are responsible for India’s so-called “backwardness.”

महाराष्ट्र के मालेगांव से सामने आए कुछ वीडियो और तस्वीरों ने सोशल मीडिया पर ज़ोरदार राजनीतिक और सामाजिक बहस छेड़ दी है। अलग-अलग प्लेटफॉर्म पर इन दृश्यों को लेकर तरह-तरह के दावे किए जा रहे हैं। कई यूज़र्स हालात की तुलना पड़ोसी देशों से करते हुए केंद्र सरकार की नीतियों, अल्पसंख्यक कल्याण योजनाओं और आरक्षण व्यवस्था पर सवाल खड़े कर रहे हैं।
चर्चा का मुख्य बिंदु यह है कि केंद्र सरकार द्वारा चलाई जा रही सैकड़ों योजनाओं, छात्रवृत्तियों और अल्पसंख्यक फंड के बावजूद ज़मीनी स्तर पर अपेक्षित बदलाव क्यों नज़र नहीं आ रहा। सोशल मीडिया पर कुछ लोग इसे नीतियों की विफलता बता रहे हैं, जबकि अन्य इसे स्थानीय प्रशासन और दीर्घकालिक विकास की कमी से जोड़कर देख रहे हैं।
वहीं दूसरी ओर, विशेषज्ञों और स्थानीय सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं का कहना है कि किसी भी क्षेत्र की स्थिति को एक ही दृष्टिकोण से नहीं देखा जा सकता। शिक्षा, रोज़गार के अवसर, शहरी नियोजन, स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं और स्थानीय प्रशासन जैसे कई कारक मिलकर किसी इलाके की सामाजिक-आर्थिक तस्वीर बनाते हैं। उनका मानना है कि चुनिंदा वीडियो या तस्वीरों के आधार पर निष्कर्ष निकालना भ्रामक हो सकता है।
फिलहाल मालेगांव को लेकर यह मुद्दा सोशल मीडिया से निकलकर राजनीतिक और नीतिगत बहस का हिस्सा बन चुका है, जहां अलग-अलग पक्ष अपने-अपने तर्कों के साथ सामने आ रहे हैं।

MYCasteist arguments often push the narrative that India’s reservation system is the reason for its slow progress, comparing it to countries like China, the USA, and Western nations that supposedly have no such systems. This argument is both misleading and ignorant. Almost all western countries have various forms of affirmative action or policies promoting inclusivity. The reality is that India's reservation system is under-implemented, especially in key sectors like sports and armed forces, where marginalized communities still face exclusion.
Promotional reservations have been halted, meaning that even in government jobs, a person from a marginalized caste struggles to climb the ladder without facing significant caste bias. Meanwhile, privileged castes dominate promotions and opportunities. The casteist argument falsely blames reservation for India’s struggles while ignoring their own lack of inclusivity.
Such narratives are vital for those in power to keep the masses fighting amongst themselves, never questioning systemic corruption or poor governance. The real issue is not reservations but the entrenched caste-based nepotism that prevents marginalized communities from fully accessing opportunities.
Until casteism is acknowledged and addressed at a societal and systemic level, India will continue to fall short of true progress. It's essential to focus on dismantling this caste bias and creating a more inclusive, equitable environment for everyone.
