ASThe Mother of Scales
Once upon a time, on a quiet farm, a hen named Henrietta found an unusually large, smooth egg near the riverbank. Being a motherly soul, she rolled it back to her nest, thinking, "This poor chick needs some warmth."
Weeks later, the egg cracked. Instead of a fluffy yellow beak, out popped a long, green snout with tiny, sharp teeth. It was a baby crocodile.
A Different Kind of Chick
The other farm animals were horrified. "Henrietta, that’s a monster!" the pig squealed. "He’ll eat us all!" the rooster cried. But Henrietta just ruffled her feathers and clucked, "He’s just a bit gray and needs a bath. He is my son."
She named him Snappy.
Growing Up
Snappy was a strange "chicken."
He didn't like corn; he preferred fish from the pond.
He didn't chirp; he made low, rumbling grunts.
He couldn't fly, but he was the best swimmer the farm had ever seen.
One afternoon, a fox crept into the coop, eyeing the hens for dinner. Henrietta stood her ground, but she was small. Suddenly, a three-foot-long wall of scales and muscle slid between them. Snappy let out a terrifying hiss and snapped his jaws. The fox turned tail and ran faster than a gale of wind.
The Moral of the Story
From that day on, no one questioned Henrietta’s family. Snappy never grew feathers, and Henrietta never learned to swim, but they were the happiest pair on the farm.
Family isn't about who you look like; it's about who protects you.
