Ramesses II — known as Ramses the Great — ruled Egypt for 66 years and built monumental temples like Abu Simbel. He led massive armies, signed one of the earliest known peace treaties after the Battle of Kadesh, and became one of history’s most legendary pharaohs.
But in 1974, something extraordinary happened.
His mummy was flown to Paris for conservation treatment. Yes — the ancient king was issued an official Egyptian passport for the journey.
When scientists carefully examined his remains, they uncovered surprising truths. The once-mighty warrior suffered from severe arthritis. His spine was stiff. His arteries showed signs of hardening. He may have spent his final years in considerable pain.
And yet, standing face to face with his preserved features today feels almost unreal — as if history itself is staring back.
