LURecipe below! Homemade root beer + homemade ice cream = the best root beer float ever💃
This was a little bit of an experiment so I don’t have a perfect recipe written out for the root beer but I’ll tell you what I did and if you’d like you can tweak it to your liking!
INGREDIENTS
I used @nelsonstea “Really Root Beer” loose leaf tea which is linked in my bio (Amazon), or you can purchase it off their website! It consists of:
-Burdock Root
-Sarsaparilla Root
-Sassafras Root Bark
-Birch Bark
-Dandelion Root
-Fennel Seeds
-Anise star
-Ginger root
-Licorice Root
-Cinnamon
-Juniper berries
(I used a full 2 ounce bag of this tea to make about 8-10 servings)
———Other Ingredients———
-2 cups water
-2 to 3 cups sugar (I recommend raw turbinado sugar or white granulated sugar)
-about 1/4 cup browning sauce (you can buy it or make it, see recipe below for browning sauce)***
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make the tea- bring your water to a boil, then turn off the heat and add in the herbs. Put the lid on and allow to steep for around 1 hour, or more if you have the time.
2. In another pan, caramelize your sugar. You can totally skip this step if you’d like, I’m not sure if it’s necessary since I’ve only made this once so far! But I cooked down the sugar on low heat for about 10-15 minutes until it darkened slightly. Add a splash of water if needed and stir to avoid burning. Once done, put it aside to cool.
3. Next step is the browning sauce. You can buy this from most grocery stores, or, if you want to make it, I’ll put the recipe in the comments (since I can’t fit it up here).
4. Into a large jar, pour your steeped tea through a fine mesh sieve, pressing the herbs with the back of a spoon to get all of the flavor out.
5. Now add in the browning sauce and caramelized sugar, and stir until everything dissolves together.
6. To make a glass of root beer: Combine about 1/4th cup of the cola syrup with 1.5- 2 cups of sparkling water. Taste it and see if you want more syrup or more sparkling water. Add ice and enjoy!
