I think we finally found our favorite beach in the United States to take small children! (And it's probably not where you think. ) When you think "beach trip with kids", I imagine you think of the white sand beaches of Florida or the rolling waves of California, and we've been to both of those places and think those places are great, but Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park, Washington is the beach has our heart! Here's why we love Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park for traveling with kids: Even in the summer, the days are relatively cool so we're not getting overheated. The walk from the parking lot is easy and beautiful and there are bathrooms in the parking lot. This area is known for its cloud cover so we don't have to be as particular about sunscreen! We didn't have to lug a bunch of beach towels beach toys because the beach itself is the toy! Our kids spent hours playing with the rocks, winding through the driftwood maze, discovering the sea stacks, and pretending to be pirates in the Driftwood forts (make sure they are sturdy!) . We got there at low tide (check the tide charts!) To do a little bit of tide pooling to see some fun sea creatures that are normally underwater! I know this is not what most people think when they think beach trip, but this was the most relaxed. I've been on a beach in a very long time (when my small children are there 😅). We were all sad when we had to leave and were very excited to come back and visit! Where is your favorite beach spot in the United States? . . . . #kelsewhatelse #familytravel #travelwithkids #travelwithtoddler #momtips #familytraveltips #rubybeach #olympicnationalpark

ONE DAY in Washington’s Olympic National Park 👇🏻 SAVE for future reference! Locations + More Info: 🌿 First off—a reminder to follow leave no trace principles while exploring the park to leave it better than you found it! Stay on marked trails & pack out what you pack in when hiking. 💚 🌊 Lake Crescent This glacially carved lake is full of deep, blue water and is a must-see on every trip to Olympic! If driving from Seattle, you’ll pass it on the main highway anyway, but definitely need to make a stop. I love to stop at the first viewpoint next to the welcome sign and then the pebbled beach & long dock next to Lake Crescent Lodge (which is also a great place to stay or grab a meal)! You can also hike to Devil’s Punchbowl on the northern side of the lake—a 2.4 mile RT paved path to a small cove of bright turquoise water that you can swim in during the summer months! 💦 Marymere Falls This easy, 1.7 miles RT hike delves into the lush forest of Olympic, crossing multiple bridges, and ends at the stunning, 90-foot-tall Marymere Falls! 💦 Sol Duc Falls The 1.6 miles RT hike to Sol Duc Falls is full of gorgeous green moss & ferns, small cascading falls, and towering trees. But the star of the show is absolutely Sol Duc Falls which splits into multiple channels as it cascades 48 feet to the canyon below. 🌲 Hoh Rainforest This temperate rainforest is home to old growth trees up to a thousand years old as well as one of the quietest spots in the USA. My favorite hikes are the Hall of Mosses and Spruce Nature Trail which can be combined into a 2.1 mile loop hike! 🌊 Ruby Beach The stunning, pebble-lined Ruby Beach is said to be one of the most gorgeous beaches on the entire Olympic Peninsula by many—myself included! This beach is accessed by a short trail from the parking lot and offers views of unique sea stacks and massive amounts of driftwood. If you’ve been, do you agree or what would you change?! 🌲 #olympicnationalpark #naturalwashington #discoverwashington #travelwashington #onlyinwashington #hohrainforest #rubybeach #solducfalls #marymerefalls #lakecrescent #Olympicnp #olympicpeninsula #outdoorsy #outdoorsygirl #hikemoreworryless

My top 5 things I did in Olympic National Park 🌿 Hoh Rainforest- get here early! We woke up at 4am to make it at sunrise. This spot gets so crowded so be sure to get here early to beat the crowds. Hurricane Ridge- this place is absolutely breathtaking. We saw bears from a far distance and a lot of deer gracing in the fields. The mountain views here are stunning. Kayak on Lake Crescent- the best way to explore the lake! You can rent kayaks from Lake Crescent lodge and they are first come first serve so get there early! Make sure to kayak to devil's punchbowl- a popular swimming spot with a bridge. If you do swim here be careful and mindful that the water is very cold and deep! I happily stayed in my kayak 😂. Explore the tide pools- this is one of my favorite things we did! Check the tide charts for low tide and make your way to one of Olympic's rocky beaches during that time- some great ones for tide pools are Ruby or Rialto Beach. You'll find snails, barnacles, mussels, anemones, urchins, star fish, and even some small fish! Sol Duc Falls- this hike is so beautiful especially in the morning. It's definitely worth visiting! • • • #pnwwonderland #olympicnationalpark #olympicnationalparkwashington #washingtonstate #magicalplaces #hohrainforest #solduchotsprings #rialtobeach #rubybeach #hurricaineridge #lakecrescent #adventureinspired #travelinspiration #travelguides #travelhelp #bucketlistcheck #bucketlistadventures

Olympic National Park itinerary 🌿👇🏼 ⠀ Exploring Washington’s Olympic Peninsula is one of my favorite things to do in spring! Below are my top recommendations. ⠀ ‘Save’ this post for planning your own trip! ⠀ 🌲 Check out the Hoh Rain Forest and hike the Hall of Mosses Trail (0.8 miles). You could also add on the Spruce Nature Trail Loop for a total of 2.1 miles. ⠀ 💦 Stop at Lake Crescent for beautiful scenic views. You could also walk or bike the Spruce Railroad Trail to Devils Punchbowl (2.4 miles) ⠀ 🌿 Hike the Marymere Falls Trail (1.8 miles). It departs from the Storm King Ranger Station at Lake Crescent. ⠀ 🥾 From the same trail as Marymere Falls, you could hike to the top of Mount Storm King for scenic views over Lake Crescent. Be mindful that the last section is very steep & rocky. ⠀ 🌊 Visit Rialto Beach and walk to the famous Hole-in-the-Wall (3.3 miles). Ruby Beach is another one of my favorites. ⠀ 🏔️ Drive up to Hurricane Ridge to watch the sunset. Check for road opening hours before going. ⠀ 💧 Some more Olympic NP waterfalls to check out are Sol Duc Falls and Madison Creek Falls. ⠀ ☀️ If you have more time, drive out to Cape Flattery - the furthest northwest tip of the contiguous USA. Take the trail out to the coast (1.5 miles). ⠀ #olympicpeninsula #olympicnationalpark #pacificnorthwest #washingtonstate #pnw #nationalparks #springtravel #hiking #outdoorsy

Our Pacific Northwest Road Trip Route from Last Year… 🌲🌊 If you’re road-tripping through Oregon, Washington, and Northern California, here’s the route we took to see some of the most jaw-dropping spots in the PNW! 👇 We started in Redwoods National Park, hiking the Tall Trees Grove Trail, where we walked among some of the tallest trees on Earth. Then, we made our way up the Oregon Coast to the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor, stopping at Meyers Creek Beach and the stunning Natural Bridges. In Cannon Beach, we caught the sunset at Haystack Rock, then hiked near Chapman Point for one of the coolest views on the coast. Finally, we explored Olympic National Park, wandering through the Hoh Rain Forest, taking in the mountain views at Hurricane Ridge, and watching the waves crash at Ruby Beach and Rialto Beach. From towering redwoods and rugged coastlines to rainforests and mountain peaks, this was an epic PNW route. Would you take this road trip? Let us know your must-see stops!👇 #PNWRoadTrip #PacificNorthwest #OregonCoast #NationalParks #AdventureAwaits #exploreepicplaces
