Pro tip: we recommend visiting in the winter, there’s way less crowds and the waterfall is more powerful! We booked an early morning tour and were some of the first in the cave!

On a recent trip to Chattanooga, we gave them a few options—and without hesitation, they picked Ruby Falls. They had visited when they were younger and remembered the underground waterfall inside Lookout Mountain.
After descending more than 250 feet below the surface and walking through winding cave passages, we finally heard it before we saw it—the sound of water echoing through the cavern.
Then came the moment.
A beautiful waterfall flowing deep inside the mountain… and three grandkids standing quietly, taking it all in.

THPOV: you found the coolest way to beat the cold ❄️
If you’re planning a family trip to Chattanooga, @rubyfallscave is a must.
You’ll take an elevator 260 feet down into Lookout Mountain, then walk an easy, mostly flat paved path to the waterfall.
The guided tour is about 1 hour, and stays a comfy 60°F year-round. Strollers aren’t allowed, but baby carriers work great.
🚨Make sure to book tickets ahead of time, because they do sell out!
