KAHow I transformed our UPVC front door for under £100! AND it was super easy.
I’ve been wanting to do this for ages so last weekend I took the plunge and gave it a go. I really wanted to try and do it all by myself and I’m quite proud that managed to order all of the right door furniture to replace the old, weathered silver ones in the right sizes!
I started by taking that all off and giving the door a clean and then I masked the glass. The prep took a little while but it was worth it.
After that I painted the door with 3 coats of @makeitrustoleum UPVC garden paint in the colour ‘Bramwell’ I researched this paint a lot as I knew painting on UPVC could be a nightmare and I’m so glad I went with this one. (Just make sure the paint you choose says it’s for UPVC on on the tin). It was so easy! No sanding, primer or anything, it just went on beautifully. I think I could have left it at 2 coats but I decided to do 3 just to make it even better.
Then I added the new brass hardware, I had a few stumbling blocks, one being the letter box opening had been cut in a strange shape so I have to cut that back a bit and then I did get a bit of help from my Dad who cut down the new door spindle with a hack saw which I didn’t have, as it was way too long.
I’m so over the moon with it. It turned out better than I could have imagined, so if you thought you had to live with the colour of your door because it’s UPVC, you don’t! Literally go for it and paint it whatever colour your heart desires. This cost me £98.51 to do (I’ve listed the cost of all the supplies below) but if you’re happy with your door hardware it will only cost you the price of the paint!
