It's been a minute since I've made an autism awareness post. Some children on the spectrum have trouble keeping their hands to themselves due to overstimulation, difficulties communicating, frustration , sensory overload etc. I wanted to show you the strategy we use for our daughter to keep her hands to her self. We practice "Safe Hands"
What is "Safe Hands" ?
Safe hands is a practice to teach kids to safely use their hands rather than hitting.
How to practice "Safe Hands"
You can practice safe hands too with your kids by saying the words "Safe Hands" showing them to lock both of their hands together when the words "Safe hands" are being said and then counting to five or which ever number you feel is appropriate for your child. Counting helps keep your child to remain calm while in the "Safe hands" position long enough for you to control the situation.
