Macar yönetmen Béla Tarr, muhteşem uzun çekimlerin ve insanlık durumunu ifade eden melankolik filmlerin ustasıdır. Siyah beyaz sinemanın kalıntılarının modernist maestrosu Tarr, komünizm sonrası Macaristan’ın manzaralarını, yalnızlık ve çürüme duygusunu ifade eder. Macar halkının çok az tanıdığı Tarr, film çekmenin ve dünyaya anlatmanın belirli bir biçiminde devrim yarattı.
Gençlik yıllarında filozof olmak isteyen, fakat akademide pek de şansı yaver gitmeyen Tarr, babasının kendisine hediye ettiği 8mm’lik kamerayı eline aldıktan sonra yönetmen olmaya karar verir. Tabii, biraz da Macaristan’ın sol hareketine dahil olmasıyla değişti.
