Saturn V launch with enhanced sound. The Saturn V was a rocket NASA built to send people to the Moon. (The V in the name is the Roman numeral five.) Saturn V was a type of rocket called a Heavy Lift Vehicle. That means it was very powerful. The rocket was used in the Apollo program in the 1960s and 1970s and was also used to launch the Skylab space station. SLS vs Saturn V, a comparison. NASA’s SLS boasts a thrust to weight ratio of 1.5 (8.8m lbs of thrust/5.75 wet weight) while the Saturn V, relying solely on five liquid-fueled engines had a TWR around 1.2. It should be noted that the Saturn V had a heavier payload however with its own moonlander on board, but it’s still fun to make the comparison. In case you were wondering, the video on the right is of Apollo 11, humanity’s first moon landing! The plan was to make a longer form more cinematic comparison video soon, but given that I have exams coming up I figured this would be cool to post for now as I don’t know when there’ll be time. My video on the left has been used in a few comparisons in the last couple days, but the posters didn’t realize that it was at 50% speed, making SLS seems quite slow 😅. Wanted to set the record straight! Those SRBS make it very quick relative to the Saturn V. Not meant to be commentary on the merits of each rocket, as the Saturn V is a legend while SLS’s legacy is still in the making.

57 years of engineering evolution, captured in one frame. 🚀 On the right, Apollo 11’s Saturn V—the machine that defined the 20th century using less computing power than your modern toaster. On the left, the Artemis II SLS, which just returned from the Moon this month. While the Saturn V was taller, Artemis II generates a staggering 8.8 million pounds of maximum thrust. That’s a 15% increase in raw power, necessary to push the Orion spacecraft further than any human-rated vehicle in history. Notice the orange hue on Artemis? That’s not paint; it’s spray-on foam insulation protecting the super-cooled liquid hydrogen and oxygen propellant. Follow @astronaut_from_mars for more content like this to stay ahead of the new space age. The Saturn V was a "throwaway" masterpiece, but Artemis is the foundation for a permanent lunar base. We aren't just visiting anymore; we are staying. The physics of leaving Earth haven't changed, but our ability to survive the deep space radiation belt has evolved exponentially. Save this if you love learning things like this. Share this with someone who would find this fascinating. If you had to choose: would you rather have been on the first Moon landing in 1969 or the first Mars landing in the 2030s? #ArtemisII #Apollo11 #RocketScience #NASA2026 #SpaceExploration

👇 #SaturnV #NASA #ApolloMission #Engenharia #Foguetes
