How much screen time is okay for children? Well, it's the wrong question to be asking! 'Screen time' could be anything from mindlessly scrolling social media, to researching topics for school! But from the outside it looks exactly the same. So next time you catch yourself about to tell them to "Get off the phone!" Maybe take an interest in what they're actually doing first. 10 things I would tell you about screen time for your kids- as a pediatrician 1. Screen time happens and that’s okay. You are not failing your child because you used a show to cook dinner, take a breath, or survive a hard day. 2. It’s not about perfection, it’s about patterns. Occasional extra screen time will not harm your child. What matters most is the overall balance of connection, play, sleep, movement, and love. 3. Screens can be a helpful at times. They can give parents a break, help kids calm down, teach new things, and even connect families. The goal is intentional use…… not zero use. 4. Your presence matters more than the screen. Talking, playing, reading, laughing, and being emotionally available are the strongest drivers of development and you don’t need to be perfect at them. 5. Not all screen time is equal. Slower-paced, age-appropriate, interactive content is very different from fast, overstimulating content. Quality matters more than just minutes. 6. Real life still needs room. Kids thrive when screens don’t replace sleep, movement, outdoor play, imagination, and human connection and most parents naturally create that balance over time. 7. Using screens to survive tough moments is normal. Long car rides, sick child, exhausted parent etc. sometimes screens help everyone reset. That does not make you a bad parent. 8. Sleep, mood, and behavior are your guide. If screens are clearly disrupting sleep, attention, or emotional regulation, that’s when gentle adjustments help not shaming parents 9. You are more powerful than any algorithm. Loving, responsive, engaged parenting outweighs the impact of screen time in the vast majority of children. 10. Your child doesn’t need a perfect parent just a present one. If your child feels safe, loved, talked to, and supported, you are already doing far more right than wrong.

Screen time alone isn’t the problem. How you use it makes all the difference. Let’s stop the guilt and focus on what actually helps our babies grow. 💬 So , Screen time is NOT ruining your baby… unless 1️⃣ They’re watching alone with no interaction Babies need back-and-forth conversation, not just passive watching. 2️⃣ It replaces real-life play & communication Screen time shouldn’t take over talking, reading, singing, or cuddling. 3️⃣ It’s used for hours with no breaks Long exposure without balance can overwhelm a baby’s brain. 4️⃣ You think the screen will “teach them to talk” Apps and shows can’t replace your real voice, facial expressions, or attention. 5️⃣ It’s always used to calm big emotions If the screen is the only soothing tool, it may impact emotional regulation later. ✅ Instead of removing screens completely, try this: ✔️ Watch with them ✔️ Talk about what’s happening ✔️ Use screen time in short bursts ✔️ Follow it with real-world play or chat ✔️ Don’t stress, intentional parenting wins every time 🔁 Save this or share it with someone who needs to hear it. #ScreenTimeAwareness #SpeechDevelopment #ParentingWithoutGuilt #GentleParenting #RealParentingMoments #BabyDevelopment #IntentionalParenting #FirstTimeMum #EducationalParenting #MomLifeUnfiltered #RespectfulParenting #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #ReelForParents #ParentingTipsAndTricks #ModernParenting

Your kids don’t need to be on screens constantly, they need to be given freedom to be kids, to get creative, to build, to use their imagination. They also need time with YOU! Put the screens away and look them in the eyes. Ask them about their day, get to know them. Excessive screen time isn’t just stealing your child’s time, it’s stealing their ability to feel joy. 🧠✨ This glitter analogy shows exactly what’s happening in your child’s brain when they spend too much time on screens. Those massive dopamine dumps are training their brain to crave the big hits and ignore life’s little happy moments. You can protect your child’s brain and ability to enjoy life’s simple joys by setting sensible limits around screens. It’s not NO screen time, it’s sensible screen time 💙 #screentime #parentingtips #raisingkids #parentinghacks #childpsychology #kidsandscreens #screentimeforkids #parentingadvice #consciousparenting #dopamine #brainscience #screentimemanagement #healthykids #parentingtoddlers #parentingtweens #digitalwellness #kidsbehavior #parentingsupport #raisinghealthykids

If screen time feels like a daily battle, this might change the conversation. Most families are in the same boat. The nagging, the pushback, the sense that nothing really lands – we get it. This reframe cuts through because it doesn’t lecture. It speaks to teenagers in their own language: your time matters. Your attention is valuable. You get to decide what takes it. Not “phones are bad” – but what’s being taken, and why. Save this. Share it. Watch it together. (Check out the full Ted Talk by @dino_ambrosi on YouTube)

This video is not about fear. It’s about awareness. When doctors start speaking about how excessive screen time affects a child’s developing brain, we need to pause and listen. A child’s brain is still forming connections. Too much passive screen exposure can impact: • Attention span • Speech development • Emotional regulation • Sleep cycles • Social interaction skills And the scary part? The damage is slow and silent. But here’s the good news 💛 Early intervention changes everything. Reducing screen time. Introducing hands-on play. Encouraging real conversations. Letting kids get bored. Building creativity offline. This isn’t about guilt. It’s about making informed choices. You don’t need perfection. You need awareness — and small consistent changes. Here’s an inconvenient truth: Screen time is designed to give our kids instant gratification. Watch this clip to hear me explain how this may impacts our kids’ frustration tolerance. P.S. No, this isn’t an anti-screen video - no parent shaming on here. (I have definitely told my kids to grab the iPad when I need a break). This is a call for us to notice what happens in our kids’ bodies during screen time, so we can gain a better understanding of the impact and intervene from there.
