SIRecap to SDC Day 1 👀🌟
The mood at the start of the SDC 2025 was full of excitement, enthusiasm, and intellectual vigor. The competition got off to a fiercely competitive and exciting start as contestants displayed their debating skills, critical thinking, and eloquence on the opening day.
A brief outline of the first day's program:
2:00 PM: A lively and captivating competition was put in motion when teams and competitors came and checked in for the tournament.
2:30 PM: With the Opening Ceremony, the day formally began. The Student Leadership Council's (SLC) Senior Vice Principal, Ms. Furrah, welcomed attendees with an energizing speech that urged them to embrace the spirit of polite conversations, intellectual curiosity, and debate.
3:00PM - 3:15 PM: The Round 1 Draws were announced, allocating teams their motions and sides for the opening argument.
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM: Players started to meticulously build their cases and polish their arguments in preparation for Round 1.
4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Round 1 discussions, gave competitors the opportunity to show off their capacity for critical thought, persuasive speech, and quick thinking.
5:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Before the following round, teams were given a much-needed respite during a brief break.
6:00 PM–6:15 PM: The Round 2 draws were made public, increasing interest in the next debate session.
6:15 and 7:15 PM: Teams worked to prepare for Round 2, combining their approaches to the discussion.
7:30 PM–9:30 PM: The second round was a unique event that marked the end of the day. The resolution, "This House believes that rehabilitation should be the only consideration in criminal sentencing," was the subject of an engaging argument by seasoned debaters from DSP (debate Society Pakistan). The conversation offered the audience a perceptive and provocative discourse that demonstrated the moderators' breadth of experience and expertise while presenting a variety of viewpoints on justice, deterrence, and the role of reform.
