Employees are installing it with single-line commands on corporate machines. What they're actually doing: granting autonomous AI agents shell access, file system privileges, and OAuth tokens to Slack, Gmail, and SharePoint.
The breach data is already piling up:
🔓 CVE-2026-25253: One malicious link steals authentication tokens and achieves full gateway compromise in milliseconds
🔓 The Moltbook database breach exposed 1.5M API tokens, 35,000 email addresses, and plaintext OpenAI API keys
🔓 A Bitdefender audit found 17% of skills analyzed exhibited malicious behavior outright
🔓 Email attacks steal data without triggering alerts — firewalls see HTTP 200, EDR systems miss the semantic content
Testing it locally creates the exact security risk organizations are trying to evaluate. OpenClaw operates with full host user privileges. A compromised agent inherits everything instantly.
Cloudflare's Moltworker framework offers a middle path: ephemeral containers that isolate the agent, encrypted R2 storage, and Zero Trust authentication. Costs $7-10/month. The container dies when the task ends, taking the attack surface with it.
Security researcher Simon Willison calls it the "lethal trifecta" — private data access, untrusted content exposure, and external communication in a single process. OpenClaw has all three by design.
