For individuals who get fewer than 5,000 steps a day, these exercises are crucial for maintaining mobility, improving circulation, and strengthening key muscle groups. Side steps and low-impact jacks enhance lateral movement and coordination. Knee raises and standing hamstring curls target lower body strength, essential for daily activities like walking and standing. Heel and toe raises boost ankle flexibility and support balance, reducing the risk of falls. Together, these exercises help counteract the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, promote joint health, and can be easily integrated into daily routines without requiring much space or equipment. "There's no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs." It's not just an inspirational quote. It's a simple health tip that can transform your body if you stick to it.๐Ÿ˜ƒ When compared to running and walking, climbing stairs burns a lot more calories. It engages all the abdominal muscles, stimulates all the organs there, improves heart health, activates the spine and reduces the risk of knee, leg and ankle injuries. So the next time you feel like saving 5 mins by using the lift, think again. Those 5 mins of climbing stairs could be adding a lot more time to your lifespan.๐Ÿ˜ And what's the best part? You don't need a gym or any special equipment to get started. ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธโŒ Stairs are always waiting for you in your building, at the office, on the way to the metro. ๐Ÿš‡ Every step you climb, your body gets lighter and stronger. So you're literally rising your way up to good health.๐Ÿ˜Š #movement #sedentary #lifestyle #exercise #health #satvicmovement #healthylifestyle

Trauma taught me to greatly fear blood clots. I was sitting in the hospital bed today when it hit me that Iโ€™ve gone from active to sedentary just like what happened to my husband when he was 30 years old. He went into sudden cardiac arrest the same day he went to the ER for shortness of breath & diagnosed with a bilateral pulmonary emboli + right heart strain. The life we knew was ripped away from us that day. He is a survivor of cardiac arrest after 29 long minutes but now lives a very challenging life. I will forever be terrified of blood clots. So Iโ€™ll be setting alarms to remind me to get up and move while Iโ€™m in the hospital. If youโ€™re non-weight bearing, even small bed exercises can help keep circulation moving. Iโ€™m allowed out of bed so youโ€™ll find me on my feet bearing weight & doing what I can to keep circulation moving in my legs. Know the risks of blood clots regardless of your age. It can save a life. #bloodclots #circulation #hospital #sedentary #safetyfirst

Most of us spend way too long sitting down and it's linked to poorer cardiovascular outcomes, increased back and joint pain and obesity. Going to the gym 5 times a week doesnt offset an oterhwsie sedentary lifestyle - so short bursts of movement are important. ๐Ÿ‘‰Taking short movement breaks isnโ€™t just โ€œnice to haveโ€ - itโ€™s one of the simplest ways to reset your body and your brain during a busy day. When you sit for long stretches, your muscles switch off, your circulation slows, and your energy dips. But the moment you stand, stretch, or take a quick walk, everything wakes back up again. ๐Ÿ‘‰A 60โ€‘second stretch. A lap around the room. A few shoulder rolls. It all counts. These tiny pockets of movement boost blood flow, ease stiffness, and help your posture recover from hours at the desk. They also give your nervous system a breather - lowering stress hormones and helping you think more clearly. ๐Ÿ‘‰Regular breaks can improve focus, reduce aches, support mood, and even help regulate blood sugar throughout the day. Think of them as microโ€‘recharges: small, intentional pauses that keep your body feeling good and your mind switched on. You donโ€™t need a gym. You donโ€™t need a plan. You just need a moment. Your body isnโ€™t designed to be still โ€” itโ€™s designed to move. ๐Ÿ’ช #movementismedicine #sedentary #officejob #sitting #activefollowers

Do you sit down a lot for work? Can sitting down increase your chance of dementia? Yes according to this study... ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ By as much as....%?? How much?! *THIS STUDY IS NOT AN OPINION * Even people who exercise regularly face higher risks of dementia if they sit for most of the day! The study, published online byย JAMA, analyzed data from nearly 50,000 older adults (average age 67, 55% women) who didn't have a dementia diagnosis at the study's start. They were tracked for nearly three years ( they wore wrist accelerometers) to monitor when they were moving or sedentary during the day. Seven years later, the participants' medical records were checked to determine which of the participants had been diagnosed with dementia. People who sat for an average of at least 10 hours a day during the activity-tracking phase had an 8% higher risk of later developing dementia compared with those who had sat for fewer hours. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ And people who'd averaged at least 12 hours a day sitting were 63% likelier to develop dementia than those who'd spent less than 10 hours daily in a chair. Exercise didn't seem to change those odds! people who sat for 10 hours or more daily, & worked out were as prone to dementia as those who exercised very little. (But of course exercise has a host of other benefits so this isn't an excuse not too). TIPS: For people with mobility issues there are many benefits to getting outside in natural daylight including improved mood, resetting the circadian rhythm and Vitamin D production. Take regular walking breaks or movement breaks from your desk - even moving wrists and tapping can help. Try a standing desk Take regular Nature Snacks throughout the day - moments to take in green and nature. If you don't get enough Omega 3's in your diet consider supplements.
