But here is the neuroscientific reality: Your identity is stored in your nervous system. Every habit, every “upper limit,” and every “small” version of you that you’re trying to shed is actually a set of neural pathways reinforced by somatic safety. Your brain’s primary job isn’t to make you happy or successful—it’s to keep you predictable. When you try to step into a bigger identity (the CEO, the deeply loved partner, the woman who rests without guilt), your brain perceives that “unknown” as a threat. Even if the “old you” was stressed or unfulfilled, it was safe because it was known. 👉🏻Why Mindset Isn’t Enough: If you only work at the level of the mind, you are fighting a losing battle against your own biology. 🧠Top-Down (Mindset): You tell yourself “I am worthy of big things.” 🫀Bottom-Up (Physiology): Your nervous system feels the “charge” of that big thing and immediately triggers a fight/flight/freeze response to pull you back to the “safe” (small) baseline.
