People used to say, “just wait until you’re 30… 40… 50.” And I remember really not liking those statements. They felt like a threat. Like something was going to go wrong. I think part of what bothered me is that those statements often carry a lack of self-awareness. They can reflect disappointment, grief, or frustration… without leaving space for responsibility. Life will throw challenges our way. And I believe our bodies are always communicating with us— and if we don’t listen, they start speaking louder. At almost 50, I know my body has changed. But it hasn’t been working against me. It’s been guiding me. An invitation to listen sooner… to adjust… to start honoring what I need before it has to speak louder. What I see more often isn’t aging being the problem. It’s the resistance. The frustration. The constant fight— without the willingness to learn and grow. Aging isn’t going downhill. We live in a youth obsessed culture, so getting old(er) is something we try to avoid, but the truth is that there are a lot of gifts that come with aging. When the culture you live in, doesn’t really know what to do with you anymore, you can kind of make up your own rules and there’s something fun and exciting about that. Also, with age comes a lot of experience and wisdom.
