CO1. The effort wasn’t always understood.
Sewing something by hand can take hours (sometimes days), and it’s not just “a quick make.” When it’s compared to something store-bought, it can feel a bit deflating.
2. It started to feel like pressure instead of joy.
What began as something I wanted to do slowly turned into something I felt like I had to do—for birthdays, holidays, occasions… and that takes the fun out of it.
3. Not every handmade gift is the right gift.
This one took me the longest to learn. Just because I can make something doesn’t always mean I should. People have different tastes, needs, and preferences—and that’s okay.
Now I sew when I truly want to, for people I know will appreciate it—and it’s brought the joy back.

✨Single Method: Fold both sides of your seam allowance toward center front and secure with pins. Sew from the front of the corset, lining up your presser foot with the seam. Cut and insert one piece of boning per channel.

THThis is how I get my quilt lines straight and even every time, without having draw on or mark up my fabric!
Have you ever used this tool before? It comes with most sewing machines and I use it quite a lot! I’ve heard it called a “quilt bar” “guide bar” “seam guide” and lots of others but it’s all the same thing 😂
Most machines come with one which is awesome an I’m sure you can find them at the thrift store since they are so common, but if you don’t have one and can’t find one, comment “bar” and I’ll send you a line to one! 🪡

DRIt’s been a few years since I’ve sewed a dress for myself, so to get back into it, I chose this beginner Rossi Wrap Dress pattern from New Zealand designer @theboldone_ . I was a little bit skeptical of whether a dress pattern with no zipper closure could fit well, but I was pleasantly surprised. It took me about six hours to make.
I was so excited to finally use this @rileyblakedesigns fabric that I’ve had in my stash for years. It’s called “Jane Austen’s House” and mimics the feathery floral prints of the Regency era and has cute little gothic ruins in the print.

LOSewing debate incoming… 🔥
Do you trim and clip your seam allowances BEFORE understitching… or AFTER?
Because apparently this is one of those techniques that people feel very strongly about. 😂
Some sewists say you should grade, trim and clip first so the seam is less bulky and the understitching helps everything roll beautifully to the inside.
Others say absolutely not. Understitch first while the seam allowance is still full so the stitching is more stable and accurate… then trim and clip.
Same technique. Completely opposite order. Both sides convinced they’re right. 😅
