CSSan Francisco Police Chief William Scott provided an update Friday afternoon on the attack against Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
He said officers arrived at the couple’s San Francisco home early in the morning for a “wellbeing check” and found Mr. Pelosi and the alleged assailant, David DePape, both holding a hammer.
“The suspect pulled the hammer away from Mr. Pelosi and violently assaulted him with it,” Chief Scott said. “Our officers immediately tackled the suspect, disarmed him, took him into custody, requested emergency backup and rendered medical aid.”
Both Mr. Pelosi and Mr. DePape were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The police chief said the motive for the attack is still being determined, but Mr. DePape will be booked on the following charges: attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and several other felonies.
