But on second glance, her “fluffy vases” are anything but traditional. Tufted out of plush wool yarn, they reflect Shishi’s interest in East Asian artforms and the creative potential of textiles. “I’m also inspired by nature, which provides an endless amount of ideas,” she says. “I turn to flowers a lot for their shapes and vibrancy.” Growing up in Belgium, Shishi enjoyed wandering in the woods and making fairy gardens and houses. “I used to think dragonflies turned into fairies by night and would use the houses I built,” she recalls.
