GIANT. TAGGED. TRACKED. 🦈 Contender is the largest male white shark ever tagged by OCEARCH in the Western North Atlantic, weighing nearly 1,700 lbs. Tagged last year off the FL/GA coast, he spent much of January cruising Florida’s coastline. His most recent ping occurred on February 8th, placing him approximately 45 miles southeast of Cape Fear, near Wilmington, NC. 🌊 Contender’s SPOT tag will continue providing real-time location data for the next several years, supporting ongoing white shark research and conservation efforts. Contender is named in honor of @contenderboatsofficial, a longtime OCEARCH partner whose vessels support our offshore research missions. Meet Bella, a tagged great white shark being tracked by @ocearch — and her latest pings (yesterday and today) have her moving through the Gulf, with recent activity along the Florida Panhandle passing @30ecsb Cape San Blas, FL.  Bella is a 10-foot 2-inch, 729 lb juvenile great white that was tagged in Nova Scotia in July 2025 as part of ongoing research to better understand shark migration and ocean ecosystems.  Now she’s making her way through warmer waters. 😏 Looks like Bella decided to come down and enjoy Spring Break too. It’s interesting to see Bella following a similar path to Ripple and Ernst from last month. Because of course he did. Even apex predators want to see what all the fuss is about. To my friends still living in the area: 1. Stay safe out there. Maybe skip the deep wade this weekend?
