Why Skater Squats Are a Must for Female Athletes Single-leg strength and stability is essential for female athletes. Whether you’re cutting, jumping, or accelerating, the ability to control your body on one leg is a priority. Skater squats are one of the best exercises to develop them. Why Female Athletes Need Single-Leg Training Female athletes are at a higher risk for knee injuries, particularly ACL tears, so we need to do everything we can to reduce the risk. Most sports require athletes to be explosive off one leg—whether it’s sprinting, jumping, or changing direction. We need to make sure our training matches our athletes needs. While bilateral squats are needed, single leg training is paramount to improving performance and reducing injury risk for female athletes. Single leg training also acts as a training tool and the test. It will show us is there is a weakness or difference between the 2 legs. If one side is 10% less than the other, the risk of injury increases. Here, Emma does a great job training the skater squat. This movement allows us to test our athletes unilateral strength and stability in real time, while also helping to build it. Mastering this movement can help reduce injury risk for female athletes. How to Perform a Skater Squat 1️⃣ Stand on one leg with the other leg behind you. 2️⃣ Lower your body by bending the standing knee, keeping your chest up and core tight. 3️⃣ Lightly tap the back knee to the pad. 4️⃣ Push through the foot to return to the starting position. If you want to be a stronger, more resilient athlete, skater squats should be a staple in your training. They build the single-leg strength, stability, and control needed for better performance and fewer injuries. #femaleathlete #athlete #singleleg
