IAS Officers with Engineering Degrees 🇮🇳📚 Many officers in the Indian Administrative Service come from engineering backgrounds. In fact, engineering is one of the most common degrees among IAS toppers. Here are some well-known IAS officers who studied engineering 👇 • Tina Dabi – Though widely known, she studied Political Science, not engineering (often misunderstood). • Roman Saini – Cleared UPSC at 22; studied medicine (AIIMS), not engineering. • Anudeep Durishetty – Electrical Engineering graduate; UPSC Topper 2017. • Kanishak Kataria – Computer Science Engineering graduate; UPSC Topper 2018. . . . #IAS #UPSC #EngineeringToIAS #CivilServices #IndianAdministrativeService . . Why do engineers become bankers? 🎓🏦 It is the classic Indian story. Study Science ➡️ Do Engineering ➡️ Do MBA ➡️ Sell Soap or manage Bank accounts. Did the physics and chemistry matter? Michael Spence (Nobel Prize 2001) says No, but the Degree matters Yes. The Theory: Job Market Signaling 📡 Employers face a problem: They can’t see your work ethic or IQ before they hire you. So, they look for a proxy—a Signal. 1. The Degree as a Signal: Spence argued that education works because it is costly (in time and effort). High-productivity people find it easier to get a hard degree. Low-productivity people find it too painful/difficult. Therefore, the degree effectively sorts the “High” from the “Low,” even if the content of the degree (Calculus/Thermodynamics) is never used in the job. 2. The Indian Context: This explains why the IIT Brand or UPSC Rank is so valuable. It’s not about what you learned. It’s about proving you survived the filter. The JEE Exam: Proves raw IQ and grit. The UPSC Exam: Proves memory and extreme discipline. The Downside: We are trapped in a Signaling Arms Race. As more people get degrees, the “Signal” becomes weak. So, people need higher degrees (Masters/PhD) just to stand out, even if the job doesn’t require it. This is “Degree Inflation.” #Economics #India #Engineering #MBA #JobMarket

Our Indian engineers today complete four-year degrees and build bridges and roads, yet many structures develop cracks within years. Meanwhile, our ancestors created magnificent temples using simple tools like hammers and chisels—without modern machines or technology—and those structures have stood strong for centuries. Their work reflected deep knowledge of materials, balance, and harmony with nature. This comparison reminds us that true engineering is not just about speed or certificates, but about skill, patience, and wisdom passed down through generations. Our Indian engineers today build bridges and roads after completing four-year engineering degrees, yet many of these structures develop cracks or damage within a short time. In contrast, our ancestors built magnificent ancient temples using simple tools like hammers and chisels, without modern machines or technology, and those structures have stood strong for centuries. Their architecture reflected deep knowledge of materials, balance, and craftsmanship, along with patience and respect for nature. This comparison reminds us that true engineering is not just about degrees or speed, but about skill, dedication, and wisdom passed down through generations. #trending #engineers #indiangovernment #bjp
