CH9 years ago today, #Adele released “Skyfall”, serving as the theme song to the #JamesBond film of the same name. The song peaked within the top ten region in in over 22 countries, reaching #2 in the UK, becoming the highest charting James Bond theme song in the region. Whilst reaching #8 in the United States, the song topped the charts in Palestine, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Lebanon, Italy, Netherlands and South Korea. The song earned a 5x Platinum certification in Canada, and double-Platinum certifications in the United Kingdom, United States, Italy & Mexico. As of January 2013, the song sold over 1.6 million digital downloads in the United States, becoming the first Bond song to cross over a million digital sales in the country. “Skyfall” won numerous awards, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award both for “Best Original Song”, a Brit Award for “British Single”, two BMI London Awards, a Critics’ Choice Award, and a GRAMMY award for “Best Song Written for Visual Media”. The lyric video accompanying the song currently has over 455 million views on YouTube, and the song has garnered over 222 million streams on Spotify. Today, “Skyfall” has sold over 14.5 MILLION units globally.
