Explaining muscle function starts with understanding that muscles are responsible for movement, stability, posture, and even vital processes like breathing and circulation. The human body contains over 600 muscles, and nearly every action — from walking and lifting to blinking and swallowing — relies on coordinated muscle contraction. Muscles work by contracting and relaxing in response to signals from the nervous system. Inside each muscle fiber are microscopic structures called sarcomeres, made of proteins that slide past one another when activated. This sliding motion shortens the muscle, generating force. The more muscle fibers that are recruited, the stronger the contraction. Explaining muscle growth reveals how muscles adapt to stress. When muscles are challenged through resistance or repeated use, tiny microtears form in the fibers. During recovery, the body repairs these fibers, making them thicker and stronger. This process depends on adequate nutrition, especially protein, as well as rest and consistent movement. Muscles also play a critical role beyond strength. They help regulate body temperature by producing heat, support joint stability, protect organs, and assist blood flow by pushing blood back toward the heart. Even at rest, muscles contribute to metabolism by burning energy to maintain tone and readiness. Understanding how muscles function shows why they are essential for overall health, not just physical performance. Strong, well-functioning muscles support mobility, balance, and long-term independence — proving that muscle health is a foundation of how the human body moves, adapts, and survives.

When a child’s airway is narrow, the soft palate can hang lower and block airflow — impacting sleep, focus, and development. The chew tube exercise is a simple way to: ✅ Strengthen jaw and tongue coordination ✅ Encourage lips to seal for nasal breathing ✅ Train the soft palate to lift properly (keeping the airway open) ✅ Support better sleep and speech clarity 💪 Combine chew tube work with myofunctional therapy for lasting results. Myofunctional therapy retrains the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face — helping kids breathe through their nose, improve sleep, and support healthy facial growth Comment “Chewy” and I’ll send you the link! #myofunctionaltherapy #speechtherapy #nasalbreathing #mouthbreathing #speechlanguagepathologist #pediatricfeeding #orofacialmyology #feedingtherapy #chewytube

How Lack of Sleep Affects Your Baby’s Brain & Personality 💤 Did you know? Your baby’s sleep doesn’t just affect their rest — it shapes their brain development, mood, and future behavior. 🍼🧠 🚼 Babies with poor sleep often show: 🔹 High sensitivity to noise, light, or touch 🔹 More fussiness, mood swings, or trouble adapting 🔹 Greater risk of behavioral challenges as they grow 👶 The Sleep-Personality Connection Sleep-deprived babies can develop signs of anxiety, hyperactivity, or emotional withdrawal. 😔 📚 Lack of Sleep = Learning Struggles Even infants need good sleep for brain power! Babies who sleep better show stronger thinking and learning skills by just 6 months old. ✨ Simple Solutions: 💡 Stick to a soothing bedtime routine 💡 Limit stimulation before sleep 💡 Help your baby learn to self-soothe ✅ A well-rested baby = a smarter, calmer, happier child! 🌟 👇 Comment “BABY SLEEP” and I’ll send you a free guide + tools to help improve your baby’s sleep routine! #baby #instababycute #babygirl #babyboy #adorablebabyboy #babyfever #babyshower #babysmilingk #babiesofinstagram #babies #babiesofinsta #babiesbabiesbabies #babiesanddogs #sleepybabies #babiesblink #babylifestyle #babyofinsta #babycute💋 #cute😮

As 2025 winds down, I wanted to reshare the top 5 reels that resonated most with this community. I’ll be posting one a day, counting down to the video that brought over 25K new followers here and was shared 90k times 🤯. Stick around for the final reveal later this week. The final video may just surprise you 👀   This one hit because it answered a question almost every new parent whispers at 2 a.m... “Why is my baby SO loud when they sleep… and why are they up again already?!”   Grunts. Squeaks. Snorts. Arms flying like they’re practicing for the Olympics. It feels alarming when no one warned you. But noisy newborn sleep is normal.   Newborns spend most of their sleep in active sleep, with short cycles around 45 to 50 minutes. That means more movement, more noise, and more stirring between cycles.   Here’s what actually helps: ✔️ Noise and movement with eyes closed usually means they are still asleep ✔️ Pausing instead of rushing in can prevent unitentially waking them up which is a huge reason babies don’t naturally learn to stretch cycles. ✔️ Crying is your cue, not every peep   Sometimes the best move is to wait, watch, and let them resettle. That pause can be magic.   👉 Want the bigger picture on sleep myths that stress parents out? Watch my YouTube video: Baby Sleep Myths Debunked: What’s Normal and What Really Helps Parents Rest. Look at this behavior. It might seem strange, maybe even a little annoying, but I promise you: this is genius-level self-regulation. Your child isn’t “just wiggling.” They’re sending their brain a direct “calm down” signal. The rhythmic friction on their forehead and face gives the nervous system exactly what it needs: pressure, grounding, and a predictable rhythm to quiet the internal noise. It’s their way of saying: “I need to organize the chaos of the day before I can rest.” And here’s the part most parents don’t realize: A child who does this needs strong, organizing sensory input to transition to sleep. This is the heart of Regulation, one of the pillars of my C.A.R.E.® approach. ✨ Ready to help them find their calm faster? ✨ My free guide is where we start. It gives you the first 3 simple steps to decode their unique sensory signals, so bedtime finally makes sense. 👇 Comment FREEBIE below 👇 and I’ll send it straight to your DMs. Now I’m curious… Does YOUR child do something like this before sleep? Tell me their “weird little ritual” in one word below. Parents LOVE reading each other’s comments. 👇 I’m Chiara, and I don’t do sleep training. I know you’ve been there. You look at the clock—it’s 3 AM—and he’s laughing, chatting, and ready to start the day. The first thing you think is: “He slept too much during the day; he can’t be tired!” The paradox is: It’s almost always the exact opposite. In my world, we call this the Cortisol Spike. What happens? Around 3:00 AM, sleep pressure naturally drops, and the body raises cortisol to prepare for morning. But if your child went to bed already overloaded (high stress hormones from the chaotic 5 PM–7 PM window), that normal spike becomes a chemical alarm clock. His body goes into short-circuit: he’s exhausted, but flooded with adrenaline that prevents him from slipping back into deep sleep. That’s not true energy. That’s his nervous system being wired from being overly tired. Paradoxically, to avoid the 3 AM chat, you don’t need less sleep... you need to better manage the critical 5 PM–7 PM window. ✨ Ready to solve the Cortisol Spike and transform the 3 AM wake-up into sound sleep? ✨ My free guide is the starting point. It contains the first 3 simple, practical steps to start reading those unique signals and managing the critical late afternoon window with the right sensory activities. 👇 To get it, just comment “FREEBIE” below.” 👇 I’ll send it straight to your DMs, no strings attached. Follow @newparentingtoolkit for gentle, evidence-based parenting advice that actually works. The widely promoted practice of letting babies cry themselves to sleep is now known to be severely detrimental to their long term emotional and neurological development. Parents are often told that it is normal or even ideal for their babies to cry excessively, but this stress can raise cortisol levels beyond a safe limit, which can have lasting effects on the developing brain. This approach prioritizes a parent's desire for an uninterrupted night's sleep over a baby's fundamental needs, ignoring the fact that babies have no other way to communicate distress. Prioritizing your child's comfort, especially in the crucial first year, is key to gentle parenting and fostering secure attachment. If you are struggling with infant sleep or looking for non-cry methods, know that you are not alone in the world of modern parenting. Learning about child development will empower you to respond to your baby's needs without resorting to harmful practices. Credits Speaker: Dr. Erica Komisar
