“You have this diagnosis” “…ok, but what do I do!!??” 🤔 This happened to me and I also see this in my patients almost every week. 🫠😭😳 😫 Why is it that in 2025 we still have no awareness of treatment options for UARS? ‼️UARS (Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome) is a form of sleep disordered breathing. It is very common, and it is on the spectrum of sleep apnea...however, rather than the complete obstructive events, imagine breathing through a straw all night instead of being able to breathe normally. Of course, this would be so much extra effort on your body! Even though breathing isn’t usually completely blocked, the collapsibility of the airway causes constant micro-arousals, or disruptions to your sleep. ‼️Sleep FRAGMENTATION means you are staying in the more shallow levels of sleep. Not getting deep/quality sleep can have several implications, including but not limited to: ❗️Fatigue (duh!) ❕Brain fog and difficulty concentrating ❗️Memory issues ❕Mood issues/irritability ❗️Anxiety ❕Insomnia ❗️Headaches/migraines ❕Dizziness/lightheadedness ❗️Digestive issues ..and more So, what can we do? In my experience personally with this and professionally, here are some options.. 🩵 CPAP (can work, but often isn’t tolerated well by people with UARS bc of the hypervigilant state we are all in pre-treatment)…also insurances tend to avoid paying as they don’t even know what UARS is 🩵 Oral appliance therapy - can work very well, but is a crutch and doesn’t necessarily treat the root cause (personally helped me massively, but is not the case for all) 🩵 Orthodontics and expansion - for many people, giving additional space can really help as a more long-term solution 🩵Surgeries - can work, but of course more invasive and totally depends on area of restriction/collapsibility 🩵Nasal breathing improvement - there is so much that can be done here, but this has massive benefits for UARS! (May need ENT eval!) 🩵Myofunctional therapy - again, not curative but can really help! 🩵 Position - try to sleep on your side if you can. ❗️❗️Social media is NEVER individualized or medical advice OF COURSE, but I really want there to be more awareness on this!❗️❗️

Sleep apnea or sleep disordered breathing isn’t just for adults! Many kids experience this as well, and the signs may not be obvious. There’s more than I can cover in the 90 seconds, other signs can include: Mouth breathing, thumb sucking, frequent wake ups, frequent nightmares, dark eye circles, crowded teeth and ADHD like symptoms. If you suspect your child may be struggling see an airway/sleep focused dentist or ENT or see a myofunctional therapist, we help address potential causes and can help you get set up with the right team of providers! I work with children 4-5 years old and older! Comment MYO if you would like more info 🤍 #sleepapneakids #sleepdisorderedbreathing #myofunctionaltherapy #airwayhealth

Myofunctional therapy might sound complex…but it’s all about strengthening the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face to improve how your child breathes, sleeps, and functions. 🌙💤 In this video, you’ll see one of my young patients practicing simple yet powerful tongue exercises. These movements train the tongue to rest in the right position, encourage nasal breathing, and support optimal airway health— key foundations for quality sleep and overall health. 🙌🏻 If your child struggles with snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep, or even daytime behavior challenges…their oral muscles may need this kind of support. These exercises are just one piece of the puzzle to better sleep and brighter days. 🧩 (don’t worry, I coach you through all the other action steps you need to take to tackle these issues) Curious if this could help your child? The answer? ZERO!! 🌟 We’ve only seen positive changes after releasing our daughter’s tongue, lip, and cheek ties. Yes, it’s been a lot of work—an oral tie release isn’t a standalone fix. Over the past 8 months, with expansion, tongue, cheek, and lip releases, and consistent myofunctional therapy, we’ve seen incredible improvements. Her crowded teeth, deep bite, and gummy smile have transformed into proper spacing between her baby teeth, making room for her adult teeth. Her tongue now has greater range of motion (look how far back she can reach!!), correct posture, and she maintains a good lip seal, leading to more nasal breathing—even while sleeping upright in the car! This optimal tongue posture will keep benefiting her craniofacial and dental development. If your provider says to ‘wait it out’ or ‘they’ll grow out of it,’ it’s time to find a different provider. Early intervention is crucial. We wish we’d started sooner, but we’re thrilled with the drastic improvements in her facial growth and overall health. #TonguePosture #OralHealth #FacialDevelopment #PalateExpansion #JawPain #TongueHealth #parenting #themoreyouknow #knowyouroptions #healthykids #TongueTie #JawJoint #BreathingDisorders #TMJ #TMD #OralHealth #TreatmentOptions #holistichealth #PainRelief #breathe #explorepage #nasalbreathing #mouthbreathing #sleepdisorders #sleepdisorderedbreathing #explorepage #headache #migraines #neck #tongue #tonguetie #smile

We practice what we preach here! When you start working with us, it may feel like we are sending you on a wild goose chase to other providers. I promise you we just want to help you get to the ROOT of your problem, not just treat the symptoms. We want the best outcome for you or your child. If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen the things I’ve been doing: 🦷 Expansion with a MARPE expander and reverse pull headgear 👄 Lip tie release (tongue tie release coming soon!) 🧍🏼‍♀️ PT with a PRI trained therapist 💆🏼‍♀️ Cranial sacral therapy 🧘🏻‍♀️ Pilates to strengthen my core and improve my posture 🧍🏻 My husband is starting PT and hopefully getting an expansion appliance to help with his sleep. 👅 My youngest daughter had a lip and tongue tie release as a newborn and cranial sacral therapy. 😬 My older daughter is doing myobrace to start the expansion process and will get a tongue tie release when she’s ready. 👂🏼 Both of my girls have been to the ENT to address mouth breathing. B had her adenoids removed and ear tubes placed and C had ear tubes placed. Collaborative care is so important to our practice. We’ve been in your shoes and we can’t wait to help you improve your quality of life. #myofunctionaltherapy #orofacialmyofunctionaltherapy #sleepdisorderedbreathing #tonguetie #tonguetied #tonguethrust #myo #orofacialmyology #sleepapnea #airwayhealth #speechpathology #oralmotor #tonguetiebabies #feedingandswallowing #oralmotortherapy #alexandriava #novamoms #alexandriavamoms #alexandriavasmallbusiness

🔬 LPR ≠ GERD: It usually occurs upright, during the day, and affects the throat and voice more than the esophagus due to direct and indirect effects of reflux contents, with possible neurologic hypersensitivity. 📋 Diagnosis can be tricky—gold standard testing (HEMII-pH) is rarely done. Tools like the RSI or RSS-12 questionnaires help identify it early. 🥗 Lifestyle changes matter ALOT: Eat slowly, avoid over overstuffing, avoid late meals with alcohol, reduce acidic/fatty foods, manage stress. 🌿 🛡️ Alginate therapy forms a barrier to block reflux—especially useful after meals or before bed. 😴 LPR may worsen sleep-disordered breathing like OSA or UARS by inflaming upper airway tissues. Treating both together improves outcomes! If you’re treating a “stubborn sinus issue” or unexplained cough—don’t forget to check the throat. #LPRawareness #SilentReflux #SleepDisorderedBreathing #AirwayHealth #RefluxRelief

#Repost @luminous_dentistry ・・・ 👌🏻 Try this simple, yet extremely effective orofacial myology exercise named the Suction Hold, and start optimising your health today! 🤫 Give this a try right now where you are, simply suction your tongue front and back section up in the palate, hold for 10 seconds whilst opening the jaw as wide as you can before losing that suction. 👅 You should be feeling it deep within the fascia and musculature in the floor of the mouth, and deep into the support muscles of the neck. 🧠 The back of the tongue is innervated by the vagus nerve which activates rest and digest tone in the gut. If you have gut issues, start with focusing on tongue posture. 🦷 Many of the children and adults see improvement in gut issues whilst doing one of our Myofunctional programs and this makes me so happy! The thing is; so many children that have crooked teeth issues, breathing issues etc seem to always have digestive issues that present parallel to the set of symptoms which fall alongside upper airway resistance syndrome or sleep disordered breathing. 😬 Grind your teeth? The tongue is your key to turning those chewing muscles off. When your tongue is suctioned up, then your chewing muscles are off and you’re not clenching your jaw. 🧘‍♀️ Calm the mind. Yogis have used this to help tone the subtle parts of the body, your fascial, airway and nervous system tone. 😴 This is a great one to do before bed to switch the body into parasympathetic drive, and calms the central nervous system down before settling into restorative sleep. Goal is to keep it here all night. 🤔 How did it make you feel? Tell me below ⬇️ #orofacial #vagusnervehealing #vagusnerve #facialexercise #faceyoga #theaginggames
