SA⚠️ WORLD’S LARGEST CRANE VESSEL LOSES POWER AND DRIFTS TOWARD SHORE IN NORWAY

Just metres from land. That’s how close it got. The Sleipnir, the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel, capable of lifting 20,000 tonnes in tandem and holding multiple world lifting records, suffered a complete blackout Sunday morning near Hundvåg in Stavanger, losing all power and steering at 08:30. 💀
A vessel that can lift the equivalent of 13 Eiffel Towers, helpless, drifting toward shore with no propulsion and no steering. Rescue coordinator Cecillie Øversveen put it simply: “It was very close. We’re talking metres.”
Powerful tugboats managed to get lines on the vessel by around 09:15 and towed her to the safety of Åmøyfjorden. No evacuation needed, no structures struck. ⚠️
An oil spill was reported in the aftermath, with cleanup crews deployed to clear oil from the water and nearby beach at Skeisvika. Authorities have opened a formal investigation. 🌊
Operated by Dutch contractor Heerema Marine Contractors, built to conquer the world’s toughest offshore jobs, humbled by a blackout in a Norwegian fjord.
