a great first fish for baby 🐟 1️⃣ Salmon may be intro’d as soon as baby is ready for solids, typically around 6 mos. Compared with other fish, salmon tends to be low in mercury and can be offered a couple of times per week. 2️⃣ Packed with vitamins A, B6, B12, D, and folate, salmon are rich in the nutrients that babies need. They’re also high in omega-3 fatty acids, critical for cognitive development. 3️⃣ Salmon doesn’t pose a high choking risk, although bones in freshly cooked fish certainly are. To reduce the risk, carefully check for any bones and remove them before serving. 4️⃣ Finned fish is a common food allergen, and salmon is among the most common. That said, about 40% of people with finned fish allergies don’t experience their first reaction until adulthood. Most individuals do not outgrow the allergy. By age: ➡️ 6 mos+: Offer strips of freshly cooked salmon (bones and skin removed) about the size of two adult fingers pressed together, or flake the fish and mix into other soft, scoopable foods. If using canned salmon with added salt, rinse the fish in running water in a colander to reduce sodium levels, then mix into other foods for baby to scoop. Or offer salmon cakes, as long as they are soft and larger than baby’s mouth. ➡️ 9 mos+: Offer bite-sized pieces of cooked, deboned or canned salmon; cakes and patties; or salmon salad. You can also continue to serve longer strips of salmon fillet for biting and tearing practice. ➡️ 12 mos+: Serve the cooked, deboned fish in longer strips, bite-sized pieces, cakes and patties, or flaked on its own or mixed into other foods. Feel free to introduce smoked salmon, lox, gravlax, or pickled salmon in moderation. ⭐️ For complete details on over 300 foods, download the Solid Starts app. Link in bio.

Day 56 Baby’s first Salmon Meal NEW FOOD Fish 🍣 (ALLERGEN) I am so excited for this one! I love a good salmon bowl, if you can buy wild caught salmon when it’s in season even better! Fish is a great protein to introduce baby to, it has all the essential nutrients baby needs. It’s loaded with iron, zinc, omega 3, iodine and Vitamin B12. Fish is a great source of DHA, it promotes brain health, eye health and healthy immune system function. Quick, simple and easy baby led weaning salmon (that even my toddler enjoyed) 😋🐟 I always get to cook, salmon and one huge beef, and it would break apart and make a mess (and frustrate, my baby who couldn’t pick up the little flakes). I learned from @101beforeone to simply pre-cut the salmon into finger-length strips BEFORE cooking to maintain their shape for self beating yet still be a safe, soft and mashable texture for baby! #blw #babyledweaning #blwrecipe #101beforeone #startingsolids

Albumin is a flavorless, moisture-rich protein that collects on the surface of salmon as it cooks. Albumin can indicate how much moisture is left in cooked salmon. A small amount of albumin is normal, as fish naturally expels some moisture as it cooks. However, when you see lots of albumin on the surface, it can suggest that the fish has lost a significant amount of moisture during the cooking process. Cooking it low and slow will receive the amount of albumin released.

Great salmon starts with simple preparation. Begin by patting the salmon dry with a paper towel — removing surface moisture helps create a better sear and prevents steaming. Lightly season with salt and pepper, and let it sit for about 10–15 minutes so the salt can enhance flavor and draw a small amount of moisture to the surface. Pat dry again if needed. Preheat a pan over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil. Place the salmon skin-side down and let it cook undisturbed until the skin becomes crispy. Flip once and cook briefly on the other side until just opaque in the center. Avoid overcooking, as salmon dries out quickly. Simple steps like drying, seasoning, and controlled heat help produce tender, flavorful salmon every time. Save this for easy seafood nights. Via sensefulhub/tt

Salmon is a nutrient-dense food that supports overall health. It is rich in high-quality protein, which helps build and repair muscles, supports metabolism, and keeps you feeling full longer. Salmon also provides essential vitamins like B12 and D, along with minerals such as selenium, which play key roles in energy production, immune function, and hormone balance. One of salmon’s biggest benefits is its high omega-3 fatty acid content. Omega-3s support heart health by reducing inflammation, lowering triglycerides, and improving blood vessel function. They also benefit brain health, supporting memory, mood, and cognitive performance, while promoting healthy skin and joint function.
