KIRecipe below! 💛 do you think it should be kept whole or cut up? I couldn’t handle cutting up all the cute soot sprite faces and having so much discarded 🥹
For the shortbread:
200g butter (room temp) or vegan block butter (75-80% fat)
85g caster or granulated sugar
280g plain flour
Gel food dyes
For the piping paste:
A little bit of shortbread (like 1-2tsp)
Black food dye
A little bit of egg white (or aquafaba) to make it a pipeable consistency (I just gradually added in a teeny bit until it was right)
Mix butter and sugar until smooth and easily spreadable. Add flour and mix until it comes together. Don’t overmix. Press into a ball.
Reserve a small amount of dough for colouring (like a generous pinch! You end up needing less than you think). Roll out the plain dough like in the video.
To make the piping paste, mix some leftover shortbread (1-2tsp) with black food dye and enough egg white or aquafaba to make it a pipeable consistency. Put in piping bag, pipe it!
Cut out shapes, chill in fridge/freezer before baking, and bake for 12 mins at 160C/325F (fan). Cool on wire rack.
Tip: because this is a buttery shortbread and it will be sat on the countertop for the whole time you’re decorating, it helps to sandwich the dough with baking paper on both sides (one underneath, and one on top) before rolling out, like in the video. It also helps to put a sprinkling of flour on top of the base layer of baking paper for extra prevention of sticking.

VISoot Sprite Studio Ghibli Brownies 🌟
Lil' story; I went to see Totoro at the theatre a few weeks ago and wanted some 'soot' inspired nails. The nail guy had no idea what that was and made them spikey haha 😂🫠. So I guess they are spooky soot sprites.
We are still going with Halloween themed recipes this month 🎃. I saw this recipe trending ages ago on tiktok and felt like it was time to try them out!

- Ingredients -
▪️Brownie mix
▪️Oreos
▪️Star sprinkles
▪️Golden syrup (sticking the eyes)
▪️Edible eyes
Set oven to 180. Get a square tin and pop parchment paper in. Mix your brownie ingredients in a bowl.
Pour into your tin and add oreos ontop evenly. (Optional: You can add star sprinkles now so they're embedded in the brownie) Pop in the oven for 25 mins. Take out and let it cool slightly. Using golden syrup (or peanut butter), add two small blobs where you would like the eyes and add the edible eyes. Decorate with sprinkles. Serve up in cut up squares

It was easy and fun to make. Really tasty and super appealing!
The only difference I would have done is only use the biscuit sides of the oreos as the cream was making them slide everywhere in the oven. And you can add the sprinkles prior to baking - I've made this twice now and doesnt sink in at all.
