A Father’s Plan
Huang Zi-wei is a 37-year-old father. He wants his daughter, Xing-fei, to speak Taiwanese well.
* At home, he asks the grandparents to speak only Taiwanese to her.
* Now, at 6 years old, Xing-fei can talk easily with people at the market.

When children start normal school, they usually stop speaking Taiwanese. They only use Mandarin in class. This makes parents like Mr. Huang very worried.

To fix this, Beiling Elementary School in Kaohsiung changed its system. It is now the first "Taiwanese Language Experimental School."

* Mandarin: This is used as a second language.

The school is not close to the Huang family’s home. It takes 30 minutes to drive there. Even though the trip is long, Mr. Huang and his wife decided it was worth it. They want their daughter to be part of the first group of students at this special school.

Some may wonder…
kenapa tak bagi medication?

why not do this, why not do that…
But what people see is only a few seconds. What many don’t see is the many years behind it. We have been through special school, therapies, appointments, medications… doing everything we knew, like any parents who only want the best for their child.
But along the way, Allah slowly taught us something deeper.. sometimes the path Allah writes for a family is not the one people expect or understand.. Our life daily can be unpredictable ada hari yang okay, ada hari yang very challenging and honestly, every Ramadan can be one of the most challenging times for us too.
While many families enjoy the calm of Ramadan, sometimes we are navigating emotions, meltdowns and routines that can feel overwhelming for him. Still, in those quiet moments I whisper,
“Ya Allah… please make it easy for him.”
What people see today is not because we didn’t try. It’s simply the journey Allah has written for our family. To families who are walking a similar road 🫶 we see you. Some journeys are heavier, some even harder… but we keep going with sabr and faith. Because sometimes the strongest families are the ones fighting battles the world cannot see.

IAFinally breaking my silence.
I was extremely proud that I could afford one of the best schools for my son. But after being in the same school for three years, things started changing when he was in UKG. He used to come home very cranky every day. I could feel that he wanted to express something, but he couldn’t.
Day by day, things got worse. I started noticing nail marks on his body, and once he even got hurt on his eye and ears. Later I came to know that his teacher used to send him to the play area during class hours because she felt he was a disturbance in the class.
That’s when I realized I had already spent lakhs of rupees on that school. I even skipped paying the last EMI because I felt I had already wasted enough money on a place where my child was not treated with care or understanding.
I then moved him to a smaller school hoping things would be better, but that turned out to be another disaster. We also tried a special school, but within just 15 days I realized how some places make money in the name of donations and other things.
So I finally decided to keep him at home, focus on his therapy, and nurture his interest in music — something he truly loves.
Maybe every school is not like this, but unfortunately the ones I came across were some of the worst experiences for us.
