You know… 🥬 The kale evangelist. 🫰 The person who’s always lecturing other people about their food choices. 👀 The one side-eyeing everyone in the meat department at the grocery store. Everyone gets to make their own decisions about what they eat, and the only people I’m side-eyeing at the store are the ones having a ridiculously loud phone conversation while blocking the entire aisle when all I want to do is grab a few cans of beans. 🙄 And that whole stereotype is exactly why I approach plant-based eating the way I do. And yes — I bring my own tofu or tempeh for protein and rice cakes to eat on the side instead of chips or bread. They go in my purse before I leave the house 👍 Why? Because I’m vegan, gluten-free, and I avoid seed oils. That combination doesn’t exactly thrive on most restaurant menus. Even the “healthy” options are usually loaded with oil, butter, hidden ingredients, or leave you with a sad plate of iceberg lettuce. Iykyk. This is also why I rarely eat out. The food I make at home has more nutrients, better quality ingredients, and I control exactly what goes into it. I don’t feel bloated. I don’t feel inflamed. I don’t guess what I just consumed. This is what changed everything for me when I thought plant-based meant being hungry all the time. I wasn’t eating too little food, I was eating the wrong balance of foods. A lot of people transition to plant-based and accidentally build meals that are mostly carbs. For me it was sandwiches and smoothies. Then I would wonder why I’m hungry again an hour later. The shift that changes everything is learning how to build balanced plant-based meals: - Protein for muscle support - Healthy fats to keep you full - Fiber-rich carbs for energy - High-volume plants for nutrients and fullness When I introduced this structure to my meals, something interesting happened: I stopped obsessing about food. I stopped snacking all day. I started to feel satisfied and energized. Plant-based isn’t about restriction. It’s about fueling your body properly.
