EVOur top tips for storing ski touring and split boarding gear over summer. Invest a little time now, and your future, frothy self will thank you.
1. When you've finished using your beacon for the year it's really important to remove the batteries to make sure there's no battery leakages that will corrode your transceiver.
2. Put some storage wax on your skis or board. It keeps the bases in good shape and stops them from drying out over summer. Make sure you scrape the wax off before you put your skins on in the fall.
3. When putting away your shovel and probe you want to make sure they're clean and dry. It's a great time to check for any damage or corrosion to your shovel, and damage to the cord on your probe.
4. Remove your boot liner to dry it out. It will help reduce any funky smells. After it’s dry, put it back in the shell and do up the buckles. This will help retain the shape of the plastic. Same goes for snowboard boots. Keeping your laces done up over summer will keep them in good shape.
5. Clean off any muck and grime that’s built up on your skis/ board with warm soapy water. Dry it off and re-lubricate any moving parts.
6. When storing skins long term, follow manufacturer's recommendations. Some say use a skin saver, others say store them glue to glue.
7. Once your skins are dry, store them in a cool, dark place, such as a tote in the basement. If that’s not available to you, you can stash them in a ziplock and put them in the freezer. Grab yourself a bevy while you’re at it!
