What’s an elder millennial emo to do when sidelined in bed with pneumonia after forced switch / non-medical switch to #biosimilar of #stelara for #crohnsdisease and #psoriaticarthritis gone sideways? Make an emo montage of the last month. Emergency antihistamine and epinephrine kit due to #insurance playing doctor. Injection of biosimilar. Sadly, one of the best injections ever. Truly a bummer my body reacted. Swelling of neck, face and mouth and throat followed by rash. Thrush starting. Thrush in bloom. @ouraring signaling I was not okay. Pneumonia. Winning of appeal to go back to @stelarahcp_us and gratitude for winning the battle despite all the suffering this past month.

Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune disease where the body produces too much collagen, causing the skin and sometimes internal organs to harden or tighten. But what people don’t see is the fatigue, pain, circulation issues, and organ complications many warriors face daily. Autoimmune diseases don’t always look the same, but every story deserves awareness, research, and compassion. 💜 #BeyondTheFlare #scleroderma #MsFFSC26 #ConfidenceWithoutConditions #AutoimmuneAwareness

Autoimmune diseases are health conditions that happen when your immune system attacks your body instead of defending it. Healthcare providers sometimes call them autoimmune disorders. Is an autoimmune disease serious? Living with an autoimmune disease like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis can be complex and serious. Although there are no cures for these diseases, many of their symptoms can be treated, and sometimes they go into remission. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider about any advances in understanding and treating autoimmune diseases #lupus #ana #healthawareness #scleroderma #sclerosismultiple

Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus Neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) is a rare, transient autoimmune condition caused by the transplacental transfer of maternal autoantibodies (anti-Ro/SSA, anti-La/SSB) to the fetus, affecting skin, blood, and liver, which typically resolve within 6-12 months. The most serious, permanent complication is congenital heart block, which often requires a pacemaker. Key Aspects of Neonatal Lupus Erythematosus: Causes/Pathogenesis: NLE is not caused by the mother having lupus, but by specific antibodies (anti-Ro/SSA, anti-La/SSB) passing through the placenta. The mothers often have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or Sjögren's syndrome, but may be asymptomatic. Symptoms: The most common sign is a rash, often appearing as red, annular plaques on the face or scalp, usually appearing in the first few weeks of life and triggered by sun exposure. Cardiac Complications: Congenital heart block occurs in about 2% of antibody-positive pregnancies, most often affecting the electrical system of the heart between 18-24 weeks of gestation. Diagnosis and Prognosis: Diagnosis is confirmed by testing for maternal antibodies. While the skin rash, liver issues, and blood count abnormalities (cytopenias) are temporary and self-limiting, the heart block is irreversible. Prevention: While there is no way to prevent the transfer of antibodies, early detection of high-risk pregnancies and monitoring via fetal echocardiogram is crucial. Studies suggest hydroxychloroquine taken during pregnancy may help reduce the risk of recurrence. #

Scleroderma is known for what it does to the skin—but it can also affect the organs you can’t see. Check out this clip to hear Dr. Toby Maher explain what ILD does to the lungs 🎥 In this clip from our recent webinar, “Scleroderma and the Lungs: A Spotlight on ILD”, Dr. Toby Maher, Professor of Clinical Medicine at USC and Co-Principal Investigator of CONQUEST, dives into how ILD in scleroderma mirrors the disease’s effect on the skin. It’s been 14 years since I first heard the word SCLERODERMA. It feels like just yesterday that I first heard a word that would change my life forever. It hasn’t been easy, but with the help of my husband, mom, brother, kids, family, Yasg, and of course the Scleroderma Foundation of California, has made it possible to overcome these obstacles.

“Many people hear the word Scleroderma… but don’t realize there are two different types—and both can impact lives in powerful ways. Localized Scleroderma mainly affects the skin. It can cause patches that become thick, tight, or discolored. While it may seem less severe, it can still affect appearance, confidence, and daily comfort. Systemic Scleroderma goes deeper. It doesn’t just affect the skin—it can involve internal organs like the heart, lungs, kidneys, and digestive system. This type can lead to serious complications and requires ongoing medical care. Both types are caused by the body producing too much collagen—turning something meant to support the body into something that can harm it. Scleroderma is not just what you see on the outside. It’s complex. It’s real. And it deserves awareness. 💙 Learn the difference. 💙 Support those living with it. 💙 Help others understand.” #scleroderma #sclerodermawarrior #sclerodermafighter #sclerodermaawareness #sclerodermawarrior
