The senior engineer who memorized the docs before Stack Overflow existed. AI-assisted coding tools are powerful, but the developers who understand what’s happening under the hood will always have the edge. The LLM is a tool, not a replacement for knowing how your code actually works. Interested in learning more about ML and Mathematics? Before AI, a junior developer’s survival kit looked like this: Google, documentation, and one sacred tab called Stack Overflow. Back then, senior engineers were different. They had spent years reading raw documentation, debugging impossible errors, and memorizing how systems actually worked under the hood. That’s why juniors looked at them like they were watching a transformer build itself. Then Stack Overflow arrived in 2008 and changed everything by letting programmers instantly share solutions to problems that once took hours or days to figure out alone. Now the next shift is here. AI coding assistants like Copilot, Claude, and Cursor can generate huge portions of code automatically. Studies show developers using AI tools can complete tasks more than 50 percent faster in controlled experiments. But here’s the twist. The developers who actually understand what’s happening behind the generated code still have the advantage. AI can write syntax. It can suggest patterns. But debugging, architecture decisions, and understanding why something breaks still come from experience. In other words, AI did not erase the value of senior engineers. It amplified it. The future developer is not the person who blindly copies code from an LLM. It’s the person who knows when the AI is right, when it’s wrong, and how the system works underneath it. The tools changed. The edge did not. Follow @big.air.lab for more stories about how AI is reshaping the way we build the future.#explore #bigairlab #artificialintelligence #ai #tech

Interesting fact: The most productive engineers in 2026 are not the ones using AI as a search engine replacement or a Stack Overflow with better grammar, they are the ones who have developed a genuine working rhythm with it, offloading the cognitive grunt work of boilerplate, documentation, and first draft architecture so their own mental bandwidth stays reserved for the judgment calls no model can reliably make yet. The shift in mindset is subtle but significant: instead of asking Claude to write code for them, the best engineers treat it like a fast, tireless junior collaborator that needs clear context, explicit constraints, and occasional correction, which ironically requires them to think more precisely about what they actually want rather than less. The engineers who get the most out of this dynamic are the ones who have invested time in understanding where the model is confidently right, where it is confidently wrong, and where it hedges in ways that signal they need to verify before shipping. What is emerging is less a story about AI replacing engineers and more about a new kind of hybrid expertise where your ceiling is increasingly determined by how well you can direct, evaluate, and extend what the model produces. Have you reached a point where working without AI tools feels genuinely slower, or does it still feel optional?

𝐋𝐞𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐫. 2. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨. Não é “isso não funciona”. É “tentei X, esperava Y, aconteceu Z — onde estou errando?” Senior respeita quem já tentou. 3. 𝐍𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧. Branch. Sempre. Sem exceção. Isso não é sugestão, é sobrevivência. 4. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐬 𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐬. “fix” não é mensagem de commit. “fix: corrige validação de CPF no formulário de cadastro” é. 5. 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐮 𝐏𝐑 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐫. Você é o primeiro revisor do seu próprio código. 📌 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐚 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭. How ChatGPT killed a 1.8 billion dollar giant In 2021 Prosus acquired Stack Overflow for 1.8 billion dollars. At the time it seemed like a safe bet for the cornerstone of the developer community. Then ChatGPT arrived. Since the release of generative AI models code generation has become instantaneous. Developers who once spent hours searching through forum threads and waiting for answers now get immediate solutions from AI. Recent data shows a massive decline in traffic and user engagement on the platform. The era of the human curated coding forum is being replaced by large language models. This is the story of how the industry changed overnight.
