Fleetwood Mac performing “Rhiannon” Live on the 27th of February, 1976 on the Midnight Special “Rhiannon” was the moment Stevie Nicks transformed mysticism, heartbreak, and feminine power into one of the most haunting songs ever written inside mainstream Rock music. When Stevie Nicks introduced “Rhiannon” to Fleetwood Mac, she didn’t simply bring the band a song. She brought an entirely different atmosphere and mythology into their world. Inspired by the novel Triad by Mary Bartlet Leader, Stevie felt compelled to write something about the “Rhiannon” character. What makes “Rhiannon” so powerful is the tension running through the performance. Everything exists to create space for Stevie Nicks’ presence at the centre of the track. None of the instrumentation overwhelms the composition. And that presence is overwhelming. She doesn’t sing “Rhiannon” conventionally. She circles around the song like someone caught between vulnerability and complete emotional control. However, Stevie does benefit from some of the production work Keith Olsen contributed to the track. For example, the producer processes some of her vocals with with a Lexicon Delta T Delay unit and that allowed Keith to stretch the emotional intensity of her vocals. Since its original release, “Rhiannon” became the blueprint for Stevie Nicks herself. The flowing imagery, the emotional intensity, the mysticism, the dramatic stage presence and the entire mythology surrounding her artistry begins here. #Music #FleetwoodMac

This performance captures Stevie Nicks and Waddy Wachtel delivering "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" live at the 1983 US Festival. Originally released in 1981 as a duet with Tom Petty, the song became a signature collaboration for both artists. The 1983 US Festival was a significant music and technology event, reflecting the era's evolving entertainment landscape. Nicks's stage presence in this era was characterized by her distinctive bohemian-inspired fashion and emotive vocal delivery. Her interaction with the band, including backing vocalists and instrumentalists, underscores the dynamic energy typical of large-scale rock concerts of the period. The staging at the US Festival involved a massive outdoor setup designed to accommodate large crowds. The song itself, a mainstream rock hit, exemplified the blend of rock energy and pop sensibility that defined much of the early 1980s music. Its success helped solidify Nicks's solo career after her foundational work with Fleetwood Mac, showcasing her ability to craft compelling narratives and deliver powerful vocal performances. The 2016 remastering enhances the audio clarity of the original recording.

Fleetwood Mac “Rhiannon,” live on The Midnight Special, broadcast February 27, 1976 Written by Stevie Nicks From Fleetwood Mac, Reprise Records, released July 1975 Produced by Keith Olsen and Fleetwood Mac Lineup: Stevie Nicks (vocals), Lindsey Buckingham (guitar), Christine McVie (keyboards), John McVie (bass), Mick Fleetwood (drums) The story Stevie Nicks tells about “Rhiannon” begins with a book she picked up at a friend’s house around Halloween 1974, about two months before she and Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac. The novel was called Triad, by Mary Bartlet Leader. It was about a woman named Branwen who gets possessed by another woman named Rhiannon. Nicks read it and the name stayed with her. She sat down and wrote the song. She didn’t know yet that Rhiannon was a figure in Welsh mythology, a goddess of horses and birds, a queen in the medieval prose tales called the Mabinogion. She didn’t find that out until 1978. By then the song had already done what it was going to do. She introduced it onstage as “a song about an old Welsh witch.” The audience believed her. So did she.

Fleetwood Mac performing “The Chain” during the Mirage Tour at The Forum in Inglewood, California, on October 21–22, 1982. Lindsey goes feral and Stevie knows it. Pure Fleetwood Mac tension, fire, and chemistry. Trivia: Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were ex-lovers while making Rumours, and that breakup helped fuel the album’s emotional tension. Their relationship had deteriorated by 1976, right as Fleetwood Mac were exploding worldwide. “Go Your Own Way” was Lindsey’s breakup song about Stevie, while “Silver Springs” became Stevie’s emotional answer to him. That’s why their stage chemistry feels so intense: it wasn’t acting — it was history standing under the same spotlight. Stevie later admitted their relationship stayed tense for years, saying she and Lindsey would always antagonize each other. So yes — that “quiet battle” feeling is very real in their story. During Fleetwood Mac’s 1997 performance of “Silver Springs” for The Dance, Stevie Nicks sang the final lines directly at Lindsey Buckingham with almost 20 years of unresolved emotion behind it. That moment became one of rock’s most famous “ex-lovers onstage” confrontations — beautiful, painful, and absolutely icy. Follow for more classics Wesli

During the recording of Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album Rumours, band members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham experienced a relationship breakup that directly shaped their music. Instead of leaving the group, the former couple channeled their dissolving romance into their songwriting while working together in the recording studio. This tension resulted in Nicks writing the track “Dreams” and Buckingham writing “Go Your Own Way” to address their split. The emotional reality of these specific songs helped propel Rumours to become one of the best-selling albums in music history.

“Silver Springs” was famously cut from Fleetwood Mac’s defining 1977 album Rumours, but during their legendary 1997 reunion concert The Dance, Stevie Nicks resurrected the track to deliver what is arguably the most intensely vulnerable live performance in rock history; the song starts as a gentle, melancholic reflection built on soft acoustic guitars and delicate piano, but as it builds toward the climax, all restraint is completely abandoned; Nicks turns directly toward her former lover Lindsey Buckingham, locking eyes with him as her vocal texture shifts from fragile mourning to aggressive, soaring rage, refusing to look away as she promises to haunt him forever; it feels less like a rehearsed stage performance and more like watching a deeply private, unresolved heartbreak unfold in real time, with the raw, unpolished grit in her voice carrying decades of pain and resentment, creating an atmosphere so thick with tension that it leaves the audience entirely breathless and proves exactly why this masterpiece should have never been left off the original record.
