The Golden Stonefly I use this pattern on my home water for bigger trout. It's also a great pattern to throw into any steelhead box. Tech Tip: When making a pheasant tail wingcase, it is not unusual to end up with a skinny looking thing. On larger flies, I triple the amount of fibres used. I lay the first bunch in the middle and then one on each side. That way, I end up with a wider and fuller profile. Next, after flipping it over and before tying it back down behind the bead, I push it back a bit. This raises it and makes it look thicker. If I'm not being clear in my description, just take a look at the video. Trout Snack Tuesday // RIO Sili-leg Stonefly Nymph This very natural stonefly nymph is an EXCELLENT choice for crystal-clear early-season water conditions. The #10 is a perfect match for the vaunted Skwala Hatch in mid-March. It's one of my favorite patterns, and offers a nice alternative to the almighty "Pat's Rubber Leg" and is slightly heavier thanks to a tungsten bead. A nice modification to this pattern is also to trim the legs a bit as well especially in swift water to preserve some of the symmetry and keep the legs splayed out. It's a great year-round pattern as stonefly nymphs live underwater for 2-4 years before hatching. I like to run 4X or 5X to this pattern so that it sinks fast and moves naturally. #flyfishingaddict #flyfishingjunky #skwalahatch #flyfishingjunkie #nymphing #stoneflynymph #flyfishing RIO PRODUCTS
