Disclaimer: This content is for educational purposes only. The laboratory supersolid is an ultracold atomic system and not a literal neutron star. The connection to neutron stars is based on well established theoretical models of superfluid vortices and astrophysical observations, not direct measurement of stellar interiors. A supersolid sounds impossible a crystal that stays rigid while part of it flows without friction. In 2024 physicists finally proved this strange quantum state by observing superfluid vortices inside a solid structure made from ultracold atoms. Why should we care? Because similar superfluid vortices are believed to exist deep inside neutron stars and may explain sudden jumps in their rotation known as glitches. For the first time we can study a piece of neutron star physics not in space but in the lab. #QuantumPhysics #NeutronStars #Superfluid #Supersolid #Astrophysics

A liquid that climbs out of a glass shouldn’t exist. But at −271°C, helium stops playing by classical rules. Below this temperature (the lambda point), helium enters a quantum state called superfluidity. In this state, its viscosity drops to zero — meaning there is literally no internal resistance to flow. That single change breaks multiple assumptions at once. Instead of sitting still, superfluid helium spreads into an ultra-thin film only a few nanometers thick. This film creeps along surfaces, climbs vertical walls, flows over edges, and eventually escapes its container entirely. Not because of pressure. Not because of leaks. But because nothing inside the liquid is slowing it down. Even more disturbing: the entire liquid behaves like one coherent quantum system. The atoms are no longer acting independently — they move in sync, described by a single quantum wavefunction. That’s why superfluid helium can: flow without losing energy transfer heat infinitely fast (theoretically) climb against gravity pass through microscopic gaps normal liquids can’t This isn’t a laboratory curiosity. Superfluid physics is directly connected to: – quantum computing stability – neutron star behavior – ultra-precise gyroscopes – future cryogenic systems In other words: this “weird liquid” is teaching us how matter behaves when friction, randomness, and resistance disappear. Most physics explains limits. Superfluidity shows what happens when limits vanish. ❤️ Double-tap if this felt illegal 🔖 Save this — this is foundational quantum physics 📤 Share with someone who thinks gravity always wins 👉 Follow @inteldrip for daily WTF-level science & tech #physics #quantumphysics #superfluid #materialscience #sciencefacts futuretech engineering weirdscience physicsvideo techvideo @ ryanhaart
